Bobcats Score 16 to Down Jaspers

HAMDEN, Conn. – A seven-run first inning gave the Bobcats an early lead as they went on to defeat the Manhattan Jaspers 16-5 in the first game of the three-game series on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Samuel Wright escaped a jam in the first inning to hold Manhattan off the scoreboard, and the Bobcats ran with that momentum. Christian Smith got Quinnipiac started in the bottom half of the inning as he singled home Kyle Garbowski with the game's first run. CJ Willis followed up with an RBI triple to right center to extend QU's lead to three. Quinnipiac continued to score in the inning as Alex Irizarry doubled off the right-field wall to score Willis from third, making it 4-0 Bobcats. With the bases loaded, Sean McCulloch drew a walk to force in another run for the Bobcats. Sophomore Kyle Garbowski put an exclamation point on the inning as he drove in two runs on a double to center field to give QU a 7-0 lead.
After Manhattan got one run back in the top of the second inning, Alex Irizarry answered back for the Bobcats as he launched his sixth home run of the year to make it an 8-1 game.
The Bobcats continued to add on in the third as they scored three runs in the inning. Sebastian Mueller drew a walk with the bases loaded to give them a 9-1 lead. As the next batter, Christian Smith tripled to right field to bring home another two runs to give the Bobcats a ten-run lead.
Manhattan made it an 11-4 game in the fourth inning as they hit a three-run home run. Quinnipiac would respond in the fifth inning as they made it a 16-4 game. Sean McCulloch doubled down the left-field line to bring home Johnny Knox with the Bobcats' 12th run of the game. After Kyle Garbowski singled home McCulloch, CJ Willis launched a three-run blast to deep left field to push their lead up to twelve.
Manhattan would score a run in the sixth inning, but that's where the scoring would end as the Bobcats kicked off the series with a 16-5 win.
