Bobcats Open MAAC Play with Iona on Saturday

HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse program opens up the league slate on Saturday afternoon, taking on Iona at the Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden.
The two teams played to an overtime affair last season that saw the visiting Gaels pull out the victory. It will be the conference opener for both squads.

LAST TIME OUT: at East Carolina
The host Pirates took the victory in the final non-conference game for the Bobcats, winning by a 17-9 scoreline in a rainy Greenville, N.C.
The teams split the first six goals of the game with Emma Miller-Ayala, Mary Hage and Anna Givens finding the cage for the Bobcats. East Carolina took control from there, however, going on an eight-goal run to spread the deficit to an unsurmountable margin. Abby Wise finished the day with four points, while Mia Delmond and Givens each potted a pair of goals for the Bobcats.
NATIONAL ACCOLADES
First year netminder Shannon Alden was recognized by Inside Lacrosse as one of the Top 10 most impactful freshmen in NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse, the organization announced on Thursday afternoon. She enters the weekend ranked No. 2 nationally in saves per game (12.12), No. 3 in total saves (97) and No. 8 in save percentage (.524). She is also the only freshman goalie in the country who currently holds a save percentage over .500. She recorded a 20-save performance against UMass Lowell, just the second by a Bobcat goalkeeper since 2003 (Kyle Larkin, 2017) and the tenth overall in program history.
IN THE RANKINGS
The Bobcats are currently top-ten nationally in three categories, sitting sixth in free-position percentage (.559) and seventh in save percentage (.526). They lead the MAAC in nine statistical categories a month into the season, including winning percentage (.625), shot percentage (.474), scoring offense (13.75) and points per game (19.63).
Along with Alden in the national ranks, Mia Delmond also sits sixth in the country in free position percentage (.750). Abby Wise enters MAAC play as the league's leader in assists (19), assists per game (2.38) and points (35) while the Bobcats have three of the league's top six in shot percentage (Cate Bendowski, Mia Delmond, Abby Wise).

The Gaels won a thriller in Hamden last season, as EllaGrace Delmond scored with four seconds left to complete a four-goal, fourth quarter comeback, but the Gaels got the last laugh with an unassisted overtime goal to win it in Hamden.
Delmond finished the day with four goals and two assists, while Abby Wise had three goals and two assists. Sophia Coan notched six draw controls in the circle.
