PECORA'S RETURN TO HOFSTRA
The contest marked the return to the Mack Sports Complex for former Head Coach Tom Pecora. Pecora spent 16 years on the Hofstra men's basketball coaching staff - first as an assistant coach, then as associate head coach under Jay Wright, and ultimately as head coach of the Pride for nine seasons. As head coach at Hofstra, Pecora compiled a 155-126 mark in nine seasons, leading the Pride to four postseason appearances (three NIT and one CBI), the most for any New York City team over that nine-year span.
GAME REWIND
The Bobcats and Pride went back-and-forth during the first half of action, finishing at a 31-31 stalemate through 20 minutes. Quinnipiac went on an 11-0 run near the end of the first half. The run finished with 2:13 left in the first half and – at the time – gave the Bobcats a 31-27 edge. Keith McKnight registered 12 first-half points. Cruz Davis poured in 20 points during the first half to lead Hofstra.
Hofstra outrebounded Quinnipiac 28-11 during the second half, and the Pride went 5-of-13 from 3-point range to earn the home victory. Tai Turnage scored all 12 of his points in the second half for QU.
NOTES & NUMBERS
Quinnipiac returns to play after the holidays, as the Bobcats will resume MAAC play on Monday, Dec. 29 in Hamden vs. Marist. Game time is set for 4:00 PM (streamed live on ESPN+).
