
Chard Blasts First Collegiate Home Run In Loss To Niagara

With the loss, the Bobcats will fall to 17-25 overall and 7-10 in MAAC play, while Niagara will improve to 29-12 overall and 15-2 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Quinnipiac got the scoring started in the first inning for the second straight game against Niagara. CJ Willis grounded out to the second baseman, which allowed Jared Zimbardo to come home with the game's first run.
Niagara would answer in the bottom of the first inning as they blasted a three-run home run to take the 3-1 lead into the second inning.
In the top of the second inning, Spencer Chard was able to reach base on a dropped fly ball and Kyle Garbowski crossed the plate to make it a one-run game. The Purple Eagles responded right back, scoring two runs on a single through the right side to give them a 5-2 lead.
Niagara would put another run on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning as Schrader hit his second home run of the game, this time a solo home run to make it a four-run game through three innings.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Niagara would add on four more runs to make it a 10-2 game through five innings of play.
After a scoreless sixth inning, Quinnipiac opened the seventh inning with four runs to get back within four. Jared Zimbardo scored on a Gabe Wright sacrifice fly to start the scoring in the inning. After Christian Smith hit a ground-rule double to left field to bring home a run, Matt DeRosa singled to left field to bring home Smith to make it a 10-5 game.

Quinnipiac got a run closer as Spencer Chard drew a bases loaded walk to bring the Bobcats within four. Niagara pushed their lead back to five as a run came in on an RBI double play.
The Purple Eagles struck for five more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it a 16-6 lead heading into the final inning.
With two runners on in the top of the ninth, Spencer Chard launched his first collegiate home run with a three-run blast to right center, making it a 16-9 game.

- Six different Bobcats recorded hits in the loss to Niagara.
- Spencer Chard led the offense with four RBIs and recorded his first collegiate home run in the ninth.
