HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac Softball split a midweek doubleheader vs. Sacred Heart on Wednesday, as the Bobcats scored seven runs on nine hits to take the final game of the day.

The Pioneers took Game 1 by the final score of 4-1, then Quinnipiac bested SHU 7-1 in the final contest of the afternoon. The Bobcats have won seven of their last nine games, and improve to 16-15 in 2024.

Brooke Hilliard, Taylor Walton and Amanda Engel each recorded two hits during the second game of the day.

Jaclyn Gonzalez worked the first 3.1 innings without giving up a run, then Sydney Horan struck out five batters through the final 3.2 innings to clinch the victory.

GAME 1 SCORING SUMMARY
First Inning

The Pioneers plated three runs in the top half of the first. Koltko drove in the first run on a sac fly, then Kowalski doubled to score two more runs to extend the SHU lead.

Fourth Inning

Quinnipiac's Hannah Davis flied out to center field, driving in a run to make it 3-1. The RBI is Davis' 10^th of the season.

Fifth Inning

Koltko homered to extend the Pioneers' lead to 4-1.

GAME 2 SCORING SUMMARY
First Inning

Ella McGalliard got the Bobcats out to an early start, driving in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the first inning.

Fourth Inning

Sofia Vega made it 2-0 Bobcats with an RBI single. It's her sixth RBI of the year.

Fifth Inning

SHU scored their lone run of Game 2 on a passed ball in the top half of the inning.
Quinnipiac scored twice more in the fifth to extend the advantage to 4-0. Taylor Walton drove a double to the gap to plate one run, then Julia Woeste scored Walton with a single of her own.

Sixth Inning

Brooke Hilliard triple to score two Bobcats in the bottom of the sixth, then Walton singled in another run to make it 7-1.
Walton's two RBI's during game two are her first two runs batted in this year.

NOTES

Jaclyn Gonzalez pitched the first 3.0 innings for Quinnipiac, surrendering 3 runs.
Lauren Hilliard went the next 3.0 innings. She gave up just one run and struck out three batters.
Sydney Horan worked the last 1.0 inning of scoreless ball.
Gonzalez then pitched the first 3.1 innings of the Game 2 win. She only allowed two hits.
Sydney Horan went the final 3.2 innings and struck out 5 batters to finish off the victory.
Natalia Apatiga had three hits over the two games. She has a team-high 34 hits this season.
Taylor Walton also had three hits – one during the first game and two in the second.
QU registered 15 total hits in the two contests.

NEXT UP
The Bobcats will play host to Niagara this weekend to continue the MAAC schedule. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 12:00 PM, and Sunday's game will begin at 11:00 AM.
