Bobcats Down SPU, Clinch First-Ever Regular Season MAAC Title

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Quinnipiac Men's Basketball clinched sole possession of the regular season MAAC title on Saturday, earning a road win at Saint Peter's by the final score of 89-74.
The Bobcats finish the regular season with a 23-8 overall mark. Quinnipiac went 15-5 in league play to earn the program's first-ever regular season MAAC title.
QU's 23 total victories mark the most for the program since the 2009-10 season. QU's 15 MAAC wins are the most-ever for the team.
The Bobcats will head to Atlantic City for the MAAC Men's Basketball Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed. QU will play on Wednesday, March 13 in the league quarterfinals from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.

NOTES
- Matt Balanc led the Bobcats with 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting. The graduate student finishes the 2023-24 regular season with 18.5 PPG (second in MAAC) on 44.2% shooting. Balanc has recorded 10+ points in 30 of 31 contests. He's up to 1,687 career points, which ranks tied for 8th all-time and 2nd in QU's Divison I era.
- Paul Otieno added 18 points and seven rebounds, going 8-for-10 from the floor in 34 minutes. He wraps up the regular season schedule with 10.6 PPG & 6.6 RPG, shooting a MAAC-best 62.7% from the field.
- Amarri Tice chipped in with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. The transfer has recorded 13.3 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.9 SPG & 1.0 BPG to date.
- Rihards Vavers recorded 10 points off the bench, and Alexis Reyes added nine points.
- Savion Lewis stuffed the box score once again with seven points, seven assists and five rebounds. Lewis finished the regular season with 7.2 assists per game (ranks 5th in the country).
- The Bobcats outscored Saint Peter's 40-30 in the paint, and outrebounded the Peacocks 34-32.
- QU led for 37:58 in total. QU's largest lead was 15 points, which is also the final margin of victory.
- Quinnipiac finishes the regular season with 242 steals, which sets a new Division I program record. The previous mark (237 steals) was held by the 2006-07 Bobcats.
- The Bobcats won 10 true road games in 2023-24 (new Division I record). The last time QU won 10 road contests came in 1969-70 under Head Coach Burt Kahn.
- 23 total wins marks the second-largest single-season total for Head Coach Tom Pecora. He helped guide Hofstra to a 26-7 record in 2005-06.
- The top-seeded Bobcats (15-5 MAAC) will play in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Tournament on Wednesday, March 13 from Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall at 6:30 PM.
