NEWARK, Del. - The Quinnipiac baseball team is set for a three-game series with the Delaware Blue Hens in Newark, Delaware. The three-game series will kick off with a 4 PM first pitch on Friday and conclude with a 1 PM start on Sunday.
HISTORY VS. DELAWARE
- Friday's matchup will mark the sixth time these programs will be facing off.
- Delaware leads the all-time series, 5-0, with all contests being played in Newark, Delaware.
- The last time these two teams faced off, Delaware came away with a 9-3 win on March 15, 2011.
- The Blue Hens enter the weekend series with a 6-5 overall record.
- Delaware is coming off a 3-2 loss to the University of Maryland on Tuesday March 5 in College Park, Md. The Blue Hens got both of their runs via the long ball as Andrew Amato and Eric Ludman both hit solo shots.
- Jake Dunion leads the Blue Hen offense with a .341 batting average. Dunion has four doubles, two home runs, and seven RBIs so far this season.
- Doug Marose leads the Delaware pitching staff with 12.1 innings pitched and has a 5.11 ERA. Marose has 14 strike outs in three starts while recording one win.
- The Bobcats won their first series of the season, defeating Merrimack in two out of three games this past weekend.
- Quinnipiac opened their home schedule with a contest vs Merrimack on Saturday and defeated the Warriors on a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth inning.
- Sean Swenson tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run home run and Dominick Proctor walked it off with an RBI single to right field.
- With a double-header on Sunday, the two teams split, and Quinnipiac won the final game of the series by a score of 21-3.
- Christian Smith finished the final game of the series with nine RBIs. Smith hit a three-run homer to kickstart his game before wrapping up with a grand slam and a two-run double.
- The pitching staff allowed just 11 runs in three games, while the offense exploded for 28 runs with 21 coming in one game.
- Junior Keegan O'Connor enters his senior season.
- O'Connor was named to the All-MAAC First Team and NEIBA All-New England First Team
- O'Connor played and started in 55 games a season ago and batted .342.
- He blasted 13 home runs and drove in 60 runs and scored 51 runs.
- O'Connor drove in a game-high 7 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11).
- Sebastian Mueller was named to the 2023 MAAC All-Academic Team
- Mueller played in 56 games and made 55 starts as a junior
- In 225 at-bats just a season ago, Mueller had a batting average of .311.
- He hit 18 homers, to lead the team, and drove in 54 runs.
- Mueller went 4-for-7 and drove in a season high 8 runs in a win over Saint Peter's (5/11)
- The Bobcats return 23 players from last season's team.
- Sophomore Matt Alduino will be a key returner as he earned 2023 All-Rookie honors for his incredible campaign. Alduino led the team with a 4.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
- Starting Pitchers, Mason Ulsh and Jimmy Hagan will also play a key role this season. Hagan will return to the mound after being shut down last season. Ulsh will look to play off his solid sophomore season.
- Other key returners include Braydon Seaburg, John Heitzman, Sean Swenson, Aaron Zenus, Matt DeRosa, Sam Favieri, Frank Craska, and Andrew Rubayo.
LOTS OF NEW FACES
- Quinnipiac welcomes 13 new faces to their campus this season.
- The Bobcats used the transfer portal to fill any openings and grabbed Dominick Proctor (Bryant and Stratton), CJ Willis (Western New England), Skyler Manelski (Linfield University), Jack Kabel (Nichols College), Gabe Wright (Indian River State College), Brett Leighton (Gettysburg), and Jack Gannon (Saint Peter's).
- Quinnipiac also brought in six first years, Spencer Chard (Newtown, Conn.), Kyle Garbowski (New Fairfield, Conn.), Raymond McNaught (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Andrew Hearn (Westfield, Mass.), James Fahan (Stamford, Conn.), and Sam Ametrano (Guilford, Conn.).
- The Bobcats will be back in action for a midweek contest against CCSU (Tuesday March 12) before heading down to William & Mary for a three-game set.
