
Bobcats Drop Series Opener To William & Mary

The Bobcats will go to 5-9 to start the 2024 season, while William & Mary will improve to 12-6 in the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
William & Mary got the scoring started early in this one as they scratched across two runs in the bottom of the first. Their first run scored on a passed ball and the second run came in with a bases loaded walk.
The Tribe struck for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to make it a 9-0 game. A homer to right got their scoring started in the inning and two hit by pitches with the bases loaded scored two more. Four more runs crossed the plate of two SAC flies, a double, and a single.
In the bottom of the third, William & Mary got a run via a sacrifice fly to make it a 10-run lead for the Tribe.
Sean Swenson would cross the plate in the top of the fourth off an RBI groundout from Matt DeRosa to make it a nine-run game.
In the top of the sixth, it was DeRosa who scored Gabe Wright on an RBI groundout to bring home the second run of the game for the Bobcats.
William & Mary would strike again in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to eleven. An error allowed a run to score and put runners on second and third. A SAC fly to right would bring home their second run of the inning before they brought home another on an RBI double down the left field line.
Quinnipiac would get five runs in the eighth to bring them within six. Christian Smith would score on a wild pitch and Gabe Wright would score on a single by Dominick Proctor. With two runners in scoring position, Keegan O'Connor would blast one over the left field wall for a three-run homer to make it a 13-7 game.

- Seven different Bobcats recorded hits against the Tribe.
- Christian Smith went 3-for-5 with one run scored.
- Keegan O'Connor went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the effort.
- Dominick Proctor picked up two hits with an RBI and a run scored.
- Matt DeRosa drove in two runs, both on RBI groundouts.
- Zimbardo, Swenson, Wright and DeRosa each recorded one hit in the contest.
- Evan Jasek came out of the pen and pitched 4.0 innings and struck out two.

- The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, March 16, at 3 PM to meet the Tribe in the middle game of the three-game set.
