HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team defeated the CCSU Blue Devils, 8-7, on Tuesday afternoon in Hamden.

The Bobcats will go to 5-8 to start the 2024 season, while CCSU will fall to 2-5 in the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kyle Garbowski got the scoring started in the first inning as he doubled to left field to score Jared Zimbardo and take an early 1-0 lead.

The CCSU Blue Devils struck for three runs in the third inning. An RBI double brought home their first run of the contest before scoring another run on a groundout and a single to center field.

Keegan O'Connor would tie the game up at three in the fifth as he scored two runners with a single through the left side of the infield.

With two runners on, Sean Swenson stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run homer to give the Bobcats a 6-3 lead.

Keegan O'Connor would strike again in the sixth as he singled home Matt DeRosa to extend the lead to four. A wild pitch from CCSU would allow CJ Willis to score and give Quinnipiac a five-run lead in the sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh, CCSU would get two runs back on a two-run home run and bring them within three.

The Blue Devils would get two more runs in the ninth with a two-run single through the left side, but that's where their comeback would end as the Bobcats would hold on to win 8-7.

NEWS AND NOTES

Seven different Bobcats recorded hits against the Blue Hens.
Keegan O'Connor went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead the team.
Sean Swenson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run.
Jared Zimbardo went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Christian Smith and Matt DeRosa each had two hits in the win.
Frank Craska recorded his first win of the season after coming in from the bullpen in the fifth inning and struck out one.
Matt Alduino recorded the save, pitching 1.0 innings and struck out one.
