HAMDEN, Conn.—The U.S. Women's National Team won their tenth gold medal at the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship on Sunday, April 16 in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. The U.S. claimed their first gold since 2019, defeating Team Canada 6-3. Quinnipiac women's ice hockey assistant coach Brent Hill, a familiar member of the U.S. Women's National team coaching staff reflected on his experience during the IIHF World Championships.
Hill spoke about how he felt "very fortunate to be part of a group that was able to flip the script on recent World Championships, and return the gold medal back to the USA for the first time since 2019."
Hill was also named to the coaching staff during the USA Hockey Women's National Team 2022-23 Rivalry Series hosted in Trois-Rivières, Que., earlier this year.
Hill stated, "Winning gold with Team USA in Brampton was surreal. We had full belief in our group from day one, but we also knew the challenges of facing a very strong Team Canada on Canadian soil and I couldn't be more proud of our team for all of their effort and sacrifice in bringing home the gold."
Hill, who is "very thankful for the opportunity to coach at the IIHF Women's World Championship with Team USA," and lead the team to their golden victory but learned valuable knowledge on how to navigate the waters of championship teams. He spoke on how this experience can be put back into Quinnipiac's own ice hockey programs, saying "I know this experience will carry over to Quinnipiac and it will help in our journey of capturing a National Championship."
