Bobcats Prepped for Kingsmill Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Fresh off its first win of the spring the Quinnipiac women's golf program looks to stay hot on the links, as the Bobcats take part in the Kingsmill Invitational, hosted by William & Mary. The two-round tournament held on Monday and Tuesday will take place at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg.

HIGH EXPECTATIONS

The Quinnipiac women's golf team has been picked to finish first in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the conference on Friday, Feb. 3
The reigning back-to-back MAAC Champions, Quinnipiac edged out Loyola Chicago for first place, receiving 73 total points and seven first-place votes
Loyola Chicago received 66 points in second, while UAlbany received 63 total points and the remaining three first-place votes.

OH CAPTAINS, MY CAPTAINS

Quinnipiac women's golf head coach John O'Connor announced the team's captains for the 2023 spring season on Jan. 20.
Seniors Kaylee Sakoda and Leeyen Peralta were been selected as captains for the program.

LAST TIME OUT

Quinnipiac women's golf overcame a six-shot deficit to win the Low Country Invitational in Hilton Head, South Carolina on Sunday, March 19th for their biggest win of the season.
The Bobcats shot a team total of 619 (+43) to come back from a fourth place (six shots down) after shooting a field-best 302, the lowest score of all teams by four strokes
They beat UNC Asheville, who shot 620 (+44), by one stroke. Elon, Jacksonville, and Presbyterian College rounded out the top five
Fuge Zhang and Leeyen Peralta tied for fifth place overall, each shooting 152 (+8)
Leeyen Peralta shot a 71 on day two moving up the leaderboard from 30th

ATLANTIC AVENUE

The Bobcats finished 10th of 12 teams in a stacked field
Quinnipiac women's golf got off to a hot start at the Atlantic Invitational, scoring a 282 to set a new program record for the lowest team score after a single round
The Bobcats saw two golfers sit within the top 20, as Leeyen Peralta and Kaylee Sakoda tied for 16th place after shooting a 214 (+1).
Both Peralta and Sakoda shot a 72 (+2) to finish at 214 (+1) to tie for 16th

FLYING HIGH AT LEHIGH

The Bobcats took part in the Lehigh Invitational to close their fall campaign, taking fourth of 16 teams
The Bobcats tied for 4th place among 16 teams at the tournament
Kaylee Sakoda won the Lehigh Invitational after five playoff holes to lead the Bobcats to a top-five finish
Sakoda was tied for third coming into the final round and shot a 71 (-1) to force a playoff with Navy's Mara Hirtle. She eventually won after scoring a par on the fifth playoff hole

BOBCAT BEACH CLUB

Quinnipiac women's golf finished the Delaware Invitational tied for sixth place out of 12 teams, led by Leeyen Peralta's tie for fourth place.
Peralta led the Bobcats after two days, shooting 78 (+6) on day two and finished tied for fourth place overall. Peralta carded a 220 (+4) in three rounds to finish the Delaware Invitational.
Kaylee Sakoda finished in a tie for 18th place after she shot a 76 (+4) in the final round, for a total of 227 (+11).
Fuge Zhang shot a 71 (-1) in the final round to finish the tournament tied for 33rd.

HOME COOKIN'

Quinnipiac women's golf wrapped up play at the Quinnipiac Classic, finishing tied for 2nd out of 11 teams.
QU ended the tournament tied in second place among 11 teams after shooting 934 (+70) after three rounds. Sacred Heart finished in first place after shooting a combined 933 (+69), just one stroke ahead of Quinnipiac and Fairleigh Dickinson (+70).
The Bobcats had three golfers placed within the top 10, as Kaylee Sakoda finished in the first place, Leeyen Peralta finished tied for 8th and Emily Luu finished tied for 10th after competing as an individual.
Sakoda shot a 71 (-1) in the final round and 215 (-1) in the whole tournament.
Peralta shot 236 (+20) and Luu shot 237 (+21) total in the three rounds.

THAT SHIP HAS SAILED

Quinnipiac women's golf took second place out of 15 teams at the Navy Fall Invitational held at the Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis
QU ended the tournament in second place among 15 teams after shooting 621 (+45) for the event.
The Bobcats saw two golfers finish within the top five as Kaylee Sakoda finished in third and Fuge Zhang tied for fourth.
Sakoda shot a 79 (+8) in the final round to close the event at 150 (+6).
Zhang carded a 75 (+3) on the final day to climb from 10th to fourth, finishing at 151 (+7).

WHAT A START!!

Quinnipiac women's golf opened the 2022 fall season with a seventh-place finish at the Yale Invitational held at the Golf Course at Yale in New Haven
QU closed the tournament in seventh place among 15 teams after shooting 882 (+30) at the conclusion of the event, setting a new three-round program record
Leeyen Peralta led Quinnipiac's grouping, tying for a 19th-place finish
Peralta shot a 71 (E) to close the tournament at 220 (+7)

BOBCATS IN BOSTON

Quinnipiac women's golf closed its second fall tournament tying for fifth place out of 16 teams at the Boston College Intercollegiate held at the Blue Hill Country Club
QU closed the tournament tied for fifth place among 16 teams after shooting 930 (+66) after the three-round invitational
Quinnipiac saw two golfers finish within the top 10, as Leeyen Peralta tied for third, while Kaylee Sakoda took sixth place.
Peralta shot a 76 (+4) in the final round to finish at 220 (+4) to tie for third place
After shooting a program-record 140 (-4) through the first two rounds, Sakoda closed the competition with an 84 (+12) for a score of 224 (+8)

PAULINE THE PUTTER

Fuge Zhang "Pauline" has built on her strong first-year campaign as a sophomore
Zhang has tallied three top-10 finishes, including two top-five finishes
Zhang carded a 75 (+3) on the final day of the Navy Fall Invitational to climb from 10th to fourth, finishing at 151 (+7)
Zhang finished second for the Bobcats in a nine-way tie for ninth at 150 (+6) at the Lehigh
Zhang tied for fifth at the Low Country Intercollegiate, shooting 152 (+8)

LAURELED LEEYEN

Leeyen Peralta returns for her senior campaign in the fall of 2022
She earned her third top-five finish of the season, tying for fifth place at the Low Country Intercollegiate
Shooting a 152 (+8) overall at the tournament, she shot a 71 on day two, moving up the leaderboard from 30th
Peralta tied for fourth place at the Delaware Invitational to earn her second consecutive top-five finish of the fall
In her second event of the fall 2022 season, she earned her first top-five finish of the season, tying for third at the Boston College Invitational
Peralta shot a 76 (+4) in the final round to finish at 220 (+4)
Peralta shot a 236 (+20) to tie for eighth at the QU Classic to earn her second top-10 finish of the season
Last season she competed in 11 events and averaged 76.67 strokes per round
Peralta earned seven top-10 finishes and four top-five finishes on the campaign
She recorded a program-record 58 birdies on the season
Peralta earned All-MAAC honors and was named the MAAC Golfer of the Year last season after finishing first at the MAAC Championship
Shot a career three-round best 218 (+2) to take first place at the MAAC Championship
Her 218 (+2) at the MAAC Championship stands as the best three-round all-time score at the tournament

Kaylee Sakoda returns for her senior campaign as well
Sakoda earned a first-place finish at the Lehigh Invitational to close the fall
Kaylee Sakoda won the Lehigh Invitational after five playoff holes to lead the Bobcats to a top-five finish
Sakoda was tied for third coming into the final round and shot a 71 (-1) to force a playoff with Navy's Mara Hirtle. She eventually won after scoring a par on the fifth playoff hole
She finished at 143 (-1) for the win
Sakoda earned her first top-10 finish of the fall 2022 season, taking sixth place at the Boston College Intercollegiate

Sakoda earned her first individual win of the season after taking first place at the QU Classic
