Tellers Scores Game-Winner, QU Outlasts Canisius in MAAC Opener

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's lacrosse won its 2023 MAAC opener on Saturday, March 11, holding on to defeat Canisius by the final score of 13-12 at the QU Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden.
Steven Germain led QU offensively with five points (two goals, three assists). John DeLucia chipped in with three goals and one assist for four points, and Jake Tellers and Trevor Douglas each scored three times in the victory.
Tellers netted the game-winning goal with 4:22 left, then the Bobcats' defense held strong over the final four-plus minutes of regulation.
Nick DiMuccio made 12 more saves, and Demitri George won 17-of-28 faceoff battles.
Quinnipiac moves to 3-2 (1-0 MAAC) with the victory.

- The Bobcats outshot Canisius 48-34. QU attempted 29 shots on goal.
- QU forced 10 Canisius turnovers. The Bobcats had eight miscues.
- Each team went 11-for-13 on clear attempts.
- Demitri George won 17-of-28 faceoff attempts, including a 7-for-8 third quarter of action to help the Bobcats earn the MAAC win.
- Nick DiMuccio – the NCAA's Division I active leader – made 12 more saves for the Bobcats.
- Steven Germain's five points led all Bobcats. The junior ranks tied for the team lead in total points this year, as he and John DeLucia both have recorded 19 points over five contests.
- John DeLucia recorded three goals and one helper. He also picked up a team-best four ground balls.
- Jake Tellers and Trevor Douglas each scored three times.
- Dylan Donnery added one goal and two assists for three total points.
- First Year midfielder Luke Hendricks recorded his first collegiate goal in the win. He scored during the second quarter of action, giving QU a 5-3 lead at the time.
- The Bobcats are now 10-4 vs. Canisius in Quinnipiac's Division I era. QU has won each of the last three meetings.
