Bobcats Hang Tough, Fall to No. 21 Yale
2/22/2023 6:12:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
HAMDEN, Conn. — Maddie Deegan capped a 3-0 scoring run early in the third quarter to cut the Quinnipiac University women's lacrosse team's deficit to 6-5 against No. 21 Yale, but the host Bobcats would run out of steam en route to a 14-5 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium.
After falling behind 5-1, the host Bobcats would get four of the next five from four different sources, cutting that deficit to one but that would be as close as they would get in the annual Battle of Whitney Ave.
Yale scored five of the first six of the afternoon, but would face a Bobcat rally started by Abby Wise early in the second. After Yale scored to make it 6-2, Sophia Iaccino, Mia Delmond and Maddie Deegan would score three in a row overlapping halftime.
Kat Henselder made 11 saves for the Bobcats between the pipes, while Emily Feeney and Desiree Kleberg joined Deegan in having multi-point afternoons.
STATS AND NOTES
The Bobcats hit the road next Wednesday afternoon, taking on UMass Lowell at 1 p.m., in Lowell, Mass.
