Bobcats' Run Ends in MAAC Title Match vs. Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The No. 2 Quinnipiac women's volleyball team had its season come to an end in the MAAC Championship game, as top-seeded Fairfield defeated the Bobcats in four sets inside Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Aryanah Diaz led Quinnipiac with 20 kills and added seven digs in the loss, while Ginevra Giovagnoni notched 17 kills, 14 digs, three service aces, and two blocks in the contest.
With the loss, Quinnipiac ends its season with 19 wins, the most in one season during the Kyle Robinson era.

SET ONE (26-24, Fairfield)
The Stags jumped out ahead first, opening the match with a 10-5 run to force a QU timeout in the set. The Bobcats fell behind 13-8 before rattling off a 4-1 run to trim the deficit to 14-12, forcing a Fairfield timeout.
Out of the break, the Bobcats extended their run to 7-1, taking a 15-14 lead in the set. After QU built its lead to 18-16, the Stags responded with a 5-0 run to take a 21-18 lead, forcing the Bobcats to use their final timeout of the set.
Out of the timeout, Quinnipiac went on a 4-1 run to knot the set at 22-22 before Fairfield used its final timeout of the set. Out of the break, the two sides split the next four points to arrive at a 24-24 tie before Fairfield took the next two points for a 26-24 set win.
SET TWO (25-14)
The second set was tightly contested early on with Fairfield carrying a 15-11 lead into the media timeout. Fairfield extended its lead to 18-12 before a Stags error and kill from Ginevra Giovagnoni cut the deficit to 18-14, forcing a Fairfield timeout.
Out of the break, Fairfield closed the set with a 6-0 run to go up in the match 2-0.
SET THREE (16-25)
Quinnipiac came storming out of the gates in the third set, opening the frame with an 8-1 run before Fairfield called a timeout. Fairfield slowly crept back into the set, cutting Quinnipiac's lead to 16-13. However, the Bobcats responded with a swift 4-1 run courtesy of two kills from Ginevra Giovagnoni to extend the lead back to six, forcing a timeout from the Stags.
The Stags never recovered in the frame, as the Bobcats rolled to a 25-16 set victory.
SET FOUR (25-20)
Fairfield opened the set taking five of the first six points, forcing a Quinnipiac timeout down 5-1. The Bobcats trailed by as much as 11-5 before a 4-0 run trimmed the deficit to 11-9, forcing a timeout from the Stags.
Quinnipiac extended its run to 6-0 out of the break to knot the set at 11-11 before back-to-back Fairfield kills halted the run. After falling behind 16-12, Quinnipiac was able to trim the deficit back down to 16-15. However, Fairfield went on a 3-0 run to take a 19-15 lead, forcing Quinnipiac to use a timeout.
The Bobcats were able to keep within striking distance, trimming the Fairfield lead down to 20-18. However, it wasn't enough, as the Stags held on for the 25-20 set win and match victory.
