Bobcats Split Doubleheader With Saint Peter's

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball split in its doubleheader against MAAC foe Saint Peter's, falling in game one, 8-3, before taking game two, 8-3, on Sunday afternoon at the QU Baseball Field.
With the split, the Bobcats moved to 14-27 on the season and 7-10 in the MAAC, while the Peacocks moved to 7-36 on the campaign with the split and 4-13 in the MAAC.
GAME ONE: Saint Peter's 8, QU 3
Saint Peter's struck first for four runs in the opening frame to jump ahead to an early 4-0 advantage. Quinnipiac responded with a run of its own in the following inning after Sam LaChance singled home Kyle Maves to cut the deficit to 4-1. However, the Peacocks responded with two runs of their own to push ahead 6-1.
The Bobcats added a run in the third off the bat of Danny Melnick's RBI double to trim the Peacocks' lead to 6-2. Trailing 7-2 in the eighth, Quinnipiac scored a run off a wild pitch to inch closer at 7-3. However it wasn't enough, as Saint Peter's held on for the eventual 8-3 win.
GAME TWO: QU 8, Saint Peter's 3
The Bobcats struck first in the opening frame for two runs. Keegan O'Connor and Melnick delivered on RBI singles to push Quinnipiac ahead to an early 2-0 lead. Saint Peter's responded with a run of their own in the second and in the fifth to tie the contest at 2-2.
The Bobcats retook the lead in the seventh after Anthony Donofrio delivered on an RBI single to score McGwire Tuffy to give Quinnipiac a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Ian Ostberg was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score a run for QU, increasing the lead to 4-2. Two batters later, Kyle Maves singled up the middle, scoring Donofrio to increase the lead to 5-2. Later in the inning, Michael Kohn drew a bases loaded walk, followed by a Saint Peter's wild pitch allowing two runs to score, giving Quinnipiac a five-run lead.
The deficit proved to be too much for the Peacocks, as the Bobcats cruised to an 8-3 victory.
