SCORE
Fairfield 10, QU 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Gabriel Romano struck out two Stags in the top of the frame, Quinnipiac was able to strike first to get him an early lead. With two outs in the bottom of the first, Danny Melnick blasted his team-leading ninth homer of the season over the fence in center to give the Bobcats an early 1-0 advantage. However, the Stags responded with a run of their own in the ensuing frame to knot the contest at 1-1, then followed with three in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead.
However Quinnipiac battled back to knot the game in the bottom of the third. Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the third, both Jared Zimbardo and Melnick blasted solo homers to tie the contest at 4-4. The Bobcats retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth after Anthony Donofrio and Melnick went back-to-back on solo homers to give QU a 6-4 lead. Later in the inning with runners on the corners, Sean Swenson reached on an RBI infield single to extend the lead to 7-4.
However, Fairfield responded with six runs of their own in the top of the sixth to take a 10-7 lead in the contest. QU added a run in the sixth off an RBI single from Donofrio, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats eventually fell in the contest, 10-8.
