NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac softball team fell to the Niagara Purple Eagles in MAAC Softball action on Sunday, April 3. The Bobcats almost pulled off a comeback after going down 4-0 and tying the game in the sixth inning, but Niagara held on to win, 5-4.
Quinnipiac moves to 5-18 on the season and 0-4 in the MAAC, and Niagara stands at 8-9 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC.
Game One Recap:
Niagara took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and later jumped to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Bobcats added one run in third inning. Brooke Hilliard hit a single and then stole second base to get the offense going. Lala Pascual, Kayla Jensen and Gianna Palmisano were all walked at their at bat. Palmisano tallied an RBI as Hilliard advanced home on the walk as the bases were loaded.
The Purple Eagles would hold on to win, 9-1, in five innings.
Notable Stats:
The Purple Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and added one other run in the fifth. Down 4-0, the Bobcats came storming back to tie the game, 4-4.
Sixth Inning – Kayla Thomas got the Bobcats started in the sixth with a double to left center. Pascual then hit a single, allowing Thomas to advance to third. Kayla Jensen hit a single through the left side, allowing Thomas to score. Fogg stepped up and hit a double, allowing Pascual and Jensen to score. Jensen later scored the Bobcats' tying run on a passed ball, and Fogg scored off an RBI-single from Taylor Walton.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Purple Eagles score one run to take a 5-4 lead. The Bobcats went three-and-out in the seventh, and Niagara held on to win the second doubleheader game.

Quinnipiac will take on the Yale Bulldogs on Wednesday, April 6 at 3 p.m.
