QU Trio Earns All-MAAC Honors

EDISON, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team saw three players earn All-MAAC honors, led by senior Mackenzie DeWees being named to the 2021-22 All-MAAC Team, as announced by the league office Monday morning. Junior Mikala Morris earned Second Team All-MAAC honors, while first-year Jackie Grisdale was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team after her first season with the Bobcats.
Earning All-MAAC First Team honors for the second consecutive season, DeWees became just the sixth player in program-history to earn all-conference First Team honors twice in their respective careers.
DeWees concluded a tremendous regular season ranked inside the top eight in the MAAC in points (8th), rebounds (5th), assists (6th) and steals (2nd). Her 3.61 steals per game and 101 steals on the season ranked fourth in the nation in both categories, respectively.
DeWees' 101 steals on the campaign set a new career-high total for the Westminster native, as she ranks third in the program's Div. I record books for steals in a season. She became just the fourth player in program-history to register at least 100 steals in a season. DeWees is just the second player in Quinnipiac's Div. I history to accomplish the feat, becoming the first to do so since Felicia Barron ('13) totaled 119 thefts during the 2012-13 campaign.
Earning All-MAAC honors for the third consecutive season, Morris continued her dominance through her junior campaign. The league's leader in double-doubles (13), Morris also finished 10th in scoring, first in blocked shots, and first in rebounds.
The Springfield, Ohio native ended the season with seven double-doubles over her final 10 games. Morris averaged 14.6 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.6 assists per game, while shooting 54.5% from the field during that span, leading Quinnipiac to a 7-3 record during that stretch.
A two-time MAAC Player of the Week, Morris also found herself inside the top-40 nationally in double-doubles (29th), rebounds (29th), and rebounds per game (38th).
Earning MAAC All-Rookie Team honors, Jackie Grisdale became the first player in program history to earn all-conference honors as a walk-on. Grisdale shined as the spark plug sixth-woman off the bench in her debut season on the court for the Bobcats. The first-year closed the season averaging 7.2 points per game, while shooting 46.3% from the field, 41.3% from beyond the arc and 88.9% from the charity stripe over her last 14 games played.
Grisdale led the charge in Quinnipiac's 26-point comeback victory over Niagara on Jan. 29, tying for the second largest comeback victory in NCAA Div. I women's basketball history. Grisdale scored a career-high 26 points in the win, including 23 points in the second half of the contest. She knocked down six three-pointers in the victory, tying the program-record for made threes in a contest.
The second-seeded Bobcats are in action in the MAAC Quarterfinals at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon as they take on the winner of the opening round contest between Saint Peter's and Marist. Wednesday's contest, along with the entirety of the MAAC Tournament, can be seen live on ESPN+ (title game will air on ESPNNews).
