Beckett Scores Game WInner in Final Minutes
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team won its season opener as the Bobcats defeated Long Island University, 9-8, on Saturday afternoon. Junior Desiree Kleberg found the back of the net three times and junior goalkeeper Kat Henselder made 7 saves for the Bobcats.
Senior attack Sydney Skalstad recorded 2 goals on the afternoon, her first two goals as a Bobcat. In total, five Bobcats found the back of the net in the victory.
Senior midfielder Gabby Beckett tallied the game-winning goal with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter. She also recorded an assist and picked up a ground ball in the win.

GAME SUMMARY
- A hot start paced the Bobcats to an early 2-0 lead. Kleberg found the back of the net twice to give the Bobcats a two-goal lead less than five minutes into the game.
- LIU answered back with four goals of its own, but Skalstad put an end to the run with her first goal of the day to bring the Bobcats within one.
- LIU tallied one more goal with 6:30 left in the half. The Sharks entered halftime with a 5-3 lead.
- LIU went on to score three more goals, taking a 8-3 lead just over five minutes into the second half.
- Quinnipiac scored three straight to end the third quarter. The Sharks were holding onto a 8-6 lead heading into the last 15 minutes.
- It was all Bobcats in the fourth quarter as they scored two goals to tie the game up at 8. Skalstad and Noel scored goals 1:51 apart to make it an 8-8 game.
- With 2:20 left in the game, Gabby Beckett ripped a free position shot into the net to give the Bobcats their first lead since the first quarter.
- Beckett's goal would stand as the game-winning goal as the Bobcats held on for the 9-8 victory.
- The Bobcats edged LIU in total shots, 31-27, as well as shots on goal, 23-15.
- Both teams were very efficient clearing their defensive zones as Quinnipiac went 15-16 on clears and LIU went 19-23.
- The Bobcats won 13 draw controls compared to 8 for the Sharks.
- The Bobcats forced 18 LIU turnovers.
- Beckett's goal is her first career game-winning goal.
