PHILADELPHIA, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team returns to the diamond for the first time in the new year, as the Bobcats open the 2022 campaign with a three-game series on the road against A-10 foe Saint Joseph's.
Bobcats Are Back
- The Bobcats look to open the season with a win for the second year in a row as they square off with Saint Joseph's on the road
- QU was picked to finish eighth in the MAAC as voted by the conference's coaches in the preseason poll
- The Bobcats return 25 members from last season's team that won seven contests
- The Bobcats' campaign features 21 straight road games to begin the season before opening the home slate in MAAC play against Canisius with a three-game series from April 1-3
- The Hawks were picked to finish ninth in the A-10 Preseason Poll
- Saint Joseph's went 21-19 last season
- The Hawks held a 15-9 record in conference games
- Friday's contest between the Bobcats and Hawks will mark the first game between the two programs
- QU baseball head coach John Delaney announced a new team member, signing six-year-old Cameron Wilson through Team IMPACT in a press conference held in the Mount Carmel Campus Rec Center on Feb. 12
- He will participate in many activities with the baseball team over the next two years, including games, practices, and other team events
- Quinnipiac's leading returning hitter, Ian Ostberg, tallied 23 hits last season and tallied 14 runs
- Ostberg registered multiple hits in four games last season, including three hits in two contests
- A member of the 2019 All-MAAC First Team, Ostberg recorded just one error in 46 chances last season
- He led the Bobcats with five stolen bases in 2021
- Went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and finished with four RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases in an 11-1 win vs. Siena on April 9
- Kyle Maves returns for his senior campaign after batting a career-high .271 in 21 games last season
- Recorded 16 hits with three doubles, nine runs scored, six RBIs and four stolen bases in 2021
- Named to the MAAC All-Academic Team last season
- Had two singles, an RBI, two runs and a stolen base in a 9-5 win vs. Siena on April 10
- Sebastian Mueller returns for his sophomore campaign after finishing sixth on the team in hits (20)
- Tied for third on the team with two home runs last season
- Recorded three doubles and two home runs along with nine RBIs and nine runs scored
- Picked up first career hit as a two-RBI single vs. Monmouth on March 20
- Reached base three times with a pair of singles, walk and run scored in an 8-5 win at Rider on March 27
- Kevin Seitter was tied for the team lead in wins (2) in 2021
- His 32 strikeouts ranked second on the team last season
- Opponents hit just .182 against him in 2021, leading the Bobcats in the category
- Struck out five batters and allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings vs. Monmouth on March 20
- Struck out a career-high 11 batters and pitched a career-long seven innings allowing just one run on three hits to earn his first career win over Siena on April 9
- Andrew Cubberly allowed just one unearned run and did not allow a hit with 11 strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched in 2021
- Made his collegiate debut with 0.2 innings pitched vs. Siena on April 9 with a strikeout
- Tied the Quinnipiac-high with 10 strikeouts in 4.2 hitless innings of relief at Canisius on May 10
