Bobcats’ All-Time Leader in 3-Pointers Announces Return to QU
The program's all-time leader in three-point field goals announced his return to Hamden on social media. Rigoni will be taking advantage of an NCAA waiver that allows student-athletes who competed in 2020-21 to use an extra year of eligibility.
He will enter the 2021-22 season as a graduate student. The All-MAAC Second Team selection led the Bobcats in scoring (11.8 PPG) and rebounding (6.3 RPG) in 2020-21. Rigoni surpassed 1,000 career points on Jan. 23, 2021 vs. Niagara, becoming the 17th player in Division I history to reach the mark. He scored 10+ points 13 times last year.
"We're incredibly happy to have Jake back for another season. Jake has been a model of what we want a Quinnipiac Basketball student-athlete to be over the past four years. His selflessness and team-first attitude has helped our program grow each and every day since he stepped on campus in 2017.
Jake's toughness, work ethic and character impact our program every day. We're very proud of the man that he has become, and we're lucky to have him help represent our Quinnipiac Basketball family.
Jake has battled through adversity during his time at Quinnipiac, and his leadership and commitment will serve our team well as we continue to grow toward our ultimate goal of winning a MAAC championship."
- Baker Dunleavy, Head Coach
Rigoni has scored 1,156 career points over four years at Quinnipiac, grabbing 475 rebounds in that span. The Adelaide, Australia-native is 259-of-640 (40.5%) from three-point range during his time with the Bobcats, breaking QU's program record for three-pointers during the 2020-21 campaign.
The 6-foot-6 forward also currently owns Quinnipiac's program record from the free throw line, going 175-of-207 (84.5%) from the charity stripe over four seasons.
Rigoni has checked in to 116 games at QU, needing to appear in just 12 more contests to break James Johnson's ('12) record for total games played (127 GP).
He is the second Bobcat to announce his return so far this summer. Quinnipiac revealed the return of forward Kevin Marfo on April 26. Marfo led the nation in rebounding (13.3 RPG) in 2019-20 for the Bobcats, then spent the 2020-21 season at Texas A&M.
