Bobcats Host Saints for Pair of Doubleheaders at 12 PM Friday and Saturday

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball is back home at the Quinnipiac baseball field for the first time since the opening week on March 20-21 as the Bobcats host the Siena Saints in a four-game series with doubleheaders set for 12 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac was swept in a doubleheader at Fairfield on Wednesday afternoon as the Bobcats fell to the Stags, 6-3 and 17-6. The Bobcats ended a stretch of 10 consecutive road games on Wednesday. Despite losing in both games, Quinnipiac battled and held a lead in game two before falling.
Scouting Siena
Siena has lost six straight games and struggled at Monmouth last weekend, scoring just one run as they were swept by the Hawks. The Saints are 3-9 on the season after splitting a weekend series vs. Iona to open the year and taking a game against Niagara. Evan St. Claire has been on a tear for the Saints hitting .486 with 17 hits in three games and nine runs scored. Devan Kruzinski has a .344 average with 11 hits, five RBIs and five runs scored. John Lumpinski has a 2-1 record for the Saints as well as a 2.87 ERA to lead their starters, striking out 18 in 15.2 innings while Mike McCully is 1-2 with a 4.66 ERA. Despite an 0-3 and 7.53 ERA, Connor Bovair leads the team with 21 strikeouts.
All-Time vs. Siena
Quinnipiac is 8-13 against Siena in 21 all-time meetings dating back to the 2001 season. The Bobcats and Saints last met at Connors Park in 2019 with Siena winning two of three games in the series. Quinnipiac has won all eight of their victories over Siena since joining the MAAC for the 2014 season, and are 8-9 since that season. This is Siena's first trip to Hamden since 2018, and second trip overall, with Quinnipiac taking two of three games in that 2018 series.
Super Sebastian
Sebastian Mueller has recorded five hits in the last three games, and has hits in six in his last seven games, to raise his batting average to .313 on the season. Mueller had two hits with a double and a run scored in game two at Niagara on Saturday and game one at Fairfield on Wednesday before blasting his first career home run in the Bobcats' last game. He is Quinnipiac first rookie to hit a home run this season.
Marrero is Money
Andre Marrero had three hits in the Bobcats' doubleheader at Fairfield and now has hits in seven of the last eight games. He hit a solo home run for his third round tripper of the season and scored three runs in the game. He now has scored nine runs this season. Marrero is tied for first in the MAAC with 13 walks, fourth in the league with three home runs and fifth with 11 RBIs.
On a Bender
Colton Bender had a breakout game in game two at Fairfield on Wednesday as he launched a three-run home run and added an RBI double to give him four RBIs in a game for the first time since April 14, 2019, in a 12-0 win at La Salle. Bender now has six home runs and 60 RBIs in his career.
Evan Almighty
Evan Vulgamore has hits in 11 of 14 games so far this season and ranks eighth in the MAAC with 15 hits. Vulgamore also ranks fourth in the MAAC with 12 RBIs and four doubles, and 10th with a .581 slugging percentage. Vulgamore leads the Bobcats with a .349 batting average.
Totally Kohn
Kyle Maves was hit by a pitch, singled and scored a run for the Bobcats in game one of the doubleheader at Fairfield as he now has hits in five of the last seven games. He now has nine hits this season.
Ice Cream Kohn
Michael Kohn had a pair of singles in game one at Fairfield and now has three hits in the last three games. He has five multi-hit games already this season, and is tied for ninth in the MAAC with 14 hits this season along with a .326 batting average.
Battling Brandyn
Brandyn Garcia continues to shine as the Bobcats No. 1 starter as he struck out six batters in game one Friday for his second-most in a game this season. Despite battling control issues and cold temperatures, Garcia still pitched five innings for the third straight start and now has 18 strikeouts this season. He is third in the MAAC with an opponent batting average of .169 and sixth with 18 strikeouts, a 2.12 ERA, and 17 innings pitched.
Jimmy Eat World
Jimmy Hagan has solidified a spot in the starting rotation with two back-to-back solid starts. He pitched a career-high 6.2 innings as he went the distance in a tough 4-3 loss in game one on Saturday, providing much needed innings for the Bobcats. He is eighth in the MAAC with 16.2 innings pitched.
