Bobcats Travel Down I-95 to Take on In-State Rival Stags

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team wraps up its stretch of 10 straight road games Wednesday as the Bobcats travel down I-95 to Fairfield where they'll take on the Stags in doubleheader beginning at Noon at Alumni Baseball Diamond.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac was swept at the hands of the Niagara Purple Eagles this past weekend but the Bobcats did not go down without a fight. The Bobcats were competitive each game, tying the game late or holding a lead early on. Quinnipiac has been competitive in each game despite a 2-10 record.
Scouting Fairfield
The Stags enter Wednesday's midweek doubleheader with an 8-0 record on the season after back-to-back sweeps at home against Canisius and Iona. Fairfield has outscored its opponents, 59-17, in eight games this season. Mike Caruso hold an NCAA-leading .526 batting average with 10 hits in 19 at bats while Justin Guerrera has been a force at the plate slashing .467/.543/1.100 with six home runs, 15 RBIs, 10 runs scored and six stolen bases. Six Stags have batting averages over .333. As a pitching staff, Fairfield owns a 1.97 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. Each starter who has made two starts has an ERA below .257 while Jake Noviello leads the way with 13 strikeouts in 13 innings to go with a 2-0 record, 0.79 ERA and 0.69 WHIP. Five different relievers have yet to allow a run out of the bullpen.
All-Time vs. Fairfield
Quinnipiac is 9-17 all-time against Fairfield dating back to 2008 but has won three straight against the Stags, including their last meeting in 13 innings to clinch the 2019 MAAC Baseball Championship. The Bobcats are 8-9 against the Stags since joining the MAAC for the 2014 season.
Dylan is Chillin
Dylan Lutz enters Wednesday with the ninth-best batting average in the MAAC at .372 and is tied for the third-most hits with 16. Lutz had his third career four-hit game in the second game of Friday's doubleheader as he went 4 for 6 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Lutz leads the Bobcats in batting average and hits as well.
Evan Almighty
Evan Vulgamore had hits in each of the last three games of the series to give him hits in 10 of 12 games this season. He had a pair of RBI singles in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, including the game-tying RBI single in the top of the seventh before Niagara won in the bottom half. Vulgamore remains tied for second in the MAAC with four doubles, tied for third with four hit by pitches, fourth with 10 RBIs and two home runs, and seventh with a .632 slugging percentage.
Andre 3000
Andre Marrero had hits in each of the first three games before his five-game hitting streak came to an end. Marrero had three runs and three RBIs in the weekend series along with a double and five walks as he reached base at an impressive clip. He is tied for the league lead in walks and fourth in RBIs (10) while his two home runs are tied for fourth.
Totally Kyle
Kyle Maves had a solid weekend up at Bobo Field as he went 5 for 14 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored, as well as three stolen bases. Maves had his first two two-hit games of the season, going 2 for 4 in the second game Friday and 2 for 3 in the second game Saturday.
Battling Brandyn
Brandyn Garcia continues to shine as the Bobcats No. 1 starter as he struck out six batters in game one Friday for his second-most in a game this season. Despite battling control issues and cold temperatures, Garcia still pitched five innings for the third straight start and now has 18 strikeouts this season. He is third in the MAAC with an opponent batting average of .169 and sixth with 18 strikeouts, a 2.12 ERA, and 17 innings pitched.
Jimmy Eats World
Jimmy Hagan has solidified a spot in the starting rotation with two back-to-back solid starts. He pitched a career-high 6.2 innings as he went the distance in a tough 4-3 loss in game one on Saturday, providing much needed innings for the Bobcats. He is eighth in the MAAC with 16.2 innings pitched.
