Bobcats Launch Three Home Runs, Come Up Short in Doubleheader at Fairfield

Baseball Drops Game One vs. Stags, 6-3, and Game Two, 17-6, in Midweek Clash
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team broke out and launched three home runs in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats were swept by scores of 6-3 and 17-6 in a pair of seven-inning games against the Fairfield Stags.
Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) hit his third home run of the season while Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) hit his second long ball of the season. Sebastian Mueller (Pottersville, New Jersey) blasted the first home run of his career with his game two blast.
Both Marrero and Mueller each had three hits in Wednesday's pair of games to lead the offense.
Fairfield took a 2-0 lead in game one in the bottom of the first inning but Quinnipiac cut the lead in half in the top of the third as Braydon Seaburg (Stratford, Connecticut) laid down a bunt over the first baseman to score Mueller and reach on a fielder's choice.
After two more runs from Fairfield in the bottom half, Quinnipiac scored a pair in the top of the sixth on Evan Vulgamore's (Bow, New Hampshire) two-run single down the left field line to pull back within a run. Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) singled one batter later to load the bases but the Bobcats couldn't push across the tying run.
The Bobcats got game two started on a high not as Bender launched a three-run home for to take a 3-0 lead after Marrero and Vulgamore each drew two-out walks to extend the inning.
Fairfield scored twice in the bottom of the first but Quinnipiac went up another run in the third as Marrero hit a first-pitch home run with one out in the inning. The Stags answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning but Mueller responded in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run of his own.
The Stags scored five times in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-5 lead but the Bobcats' pulled back within two in the top of the fifth as Bender doubled off the right centerfield wall to score Marrero easily. Fairfield scored nine unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 17-6 lead.

THIRD INNING
- Mueller led off the inning with a double on a 3-2 pitch and moved up to third three pitches later on a single from Kohn.
- Seaburg laid down a bunt over the first baseman's head to score Mueller from third to pull within a run, 2-1.
- Quinnipiac pulled within a run again in the top of the sixth inning as Lutz and Kohn were hit by pitches as the first two batters of the inning.
- Marrero followed with a single to left to load the bases before Vulgamore singled down the left field line to score Lutz and Maves with no outs but the Bobcats' ultimately left the bases loaded.

FIRST INNING
- With two outs in the inning, Marrero and Vulgamore drew back-to-back walks and moved up to second and third on a balk.
- Bender launched a three-run home run to left center on a 2-1 pitch to start the game with a 3-0 lead.
- Leading 3-2, Marrero drilled the first pitch he saw in the third inning to left field to double the Bobcats' lead, 4-2.
- Mueller led off the fourth inning with a blast to left field on the second pitch of the inning to take a 5-3 lead.
- After five runs in the fourth from Fairfield, the Bobcats pulled back within two runs in the fifth inning.
- Marrero singled on the first pitch he saw.
- With two outs in the inning, Bender doubled to right centerfield and Marrero came around all the way from first to score.
- Bender was a perfect 2 for 2 in game two and launched a three-run home run as well as an RBI double for a four-RBI game.
- Marrero had three hits Wednesday, going 1 for 4 in game one before an impressive 2 for 2 showing in game two with a solo home run, single, walk and three runs scored.
- He is tied for the team-lead with nine runs scored and second with 11 RBIs.
- Mueller also had three hits in the pair of games, including two extra base hits, going 2 for 3 with a double and a run in game one and launching a solo home run for the first of his career in game two.
- Kohn had another two-hit game for the Bobcats in game one as he singled twice.
- Maves had another single and run scored in game one for Quinnipiac.
- The Bobcats return home for a four-game weekend series against the Siena Saints with first pitch set for Friday at 12 p.m.
