Bobcats Drop Saturday Twinbill at Niagara

Baseball Came Back to Tie Game One Late, Lose Lead in Game Two
NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Quinnipiac baseball team nearly came back to win game one and came up just short in game two as the Bobcats fell 4-3 and 6-3 in a Saturday twinbill with the Niagara Purple Eagles at Bobo Field.
Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead in the first game of the doubleheader in the first inning as Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) scored on a two-out infield single from Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire).
After Niagara took a 3-1 lead, the Bobcats scored in the fifth inning on an Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) RBI double and tied the game in the top of the seventh on another RBI single from Vulgamore.
Despite coming back to tie the game, Niagara walked off in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.
Vulgamore was 2 for 4 with two RBIs in game one of the doubleheader for the Bobcats while Marrero was 1 for 2 with his RBI double, a run score and two walks to lead the offense.
Game two saw the Bobcats claw back from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 lead after the fourth inning.
Braydon Seaburg (Stratford, Connecticut) scored Quinnipiac's first run as Marrero reached on an error on a sliding attempt by the centerfielder on a blooper to shallow center.
In the next inning, the Bobcats scored twice to take the lead as Michael Kohn (Rockville, Maryland) brought in Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) on a groundout before Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) drilled a double to left centerfield to easily score Sebastian Mueller (Pottersville, New Jersey).
Niagara scored four runs in the seventh and eighth innings to come from behind and complete the weekend sweep for the Purple Eagles.
Maves went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and stolen base while Mueller was 2 for 4 with a double and run scored to lead the Bobcats at the plate in the second game.

FIRST INNING
- Lutz led off the game with a first-pitch single to left center field and made his was to third on a pair of groundouts.
- Vulgamore chopped an infield single up the middle and beat the throw to first to score Lutz to take a 1-0 lead.
- Maves reached base on a throwing error and stole second with one out to put himself in scoring position.
- After moving to third base, Maves came home to score on a double to right field from Marrero to pull within a run, 3-2.
- Quinnipiac put up a two-out rally to tie the game in the seventh as Marrero and Ostberg drew back-to-back two-out walks before Vulgamore singled to center to score Marrero.
- Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) walked but the Bobcats stranded the bases loaded.

THIRD INNING
- Braydon Seaburg (Stratford, Connecticut) was hit by a pitch and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt from Maves.
- With two outs in the inning, Marrero reached on an error on a blooping fly ball to center that Seaburg on easily from second base.
- The Bobcats took a 3-2 lead in the inning as Bender got things going with a one-out walk
- Sebastian Mueller (Pottersville, New Jersey) drilled a double to right center that put both him and Bender in scoring position.
- Michael Kohn (Rockville, Maryland) grounded out to second to score Bender and put Mueller 90 feet away.
- After a Seaburg walk, Maves doubled to left center field to score Mueller and take a 3-2 lead.
- The Bobcats stranded Maves and Seaburg in scoring position one batter later to end the inning.
- Vulgamore had three hits in the doubleheader to raise his batting average back up to .368
- He also drove in two RBIs to give him 126 in his career, one shy of tying Wilson Matos '07 for second in Division I program history and seventh overall in program history
- Marrero had another solid showing in game one as he had an RBI double, run scored and two walks to extend his hitting streak at the time to six games.
- His two walks in game one gives him six on the weekend and 12 so far in 2020-21
- Lutz recorded his 16th hit of the season in game one and scored his seventh run
- Bender reached base twice in the doubleheader with a single in game one before a walk and run scored in game two.
- Mueller had one of his best games yet as a Bobcat in game two as he doubled for his first career extra base hit and scored a run.
- Maves recorded his second two-hit game of the season in game two of the doubleheader as he singled, double and drove in a run.
- He also had a steal in each game of Saturday's doubleheader to give him three on the season.
- Seaburg made his 2020-21 debut in the second game of the doubleheader as he drew two walks and scored a run.
- Jimmy Hagan (Westfield, Massachusetts) went the distance in game one of the doubleheader for Quinnipiac's second complete game of the season.
- The Bobcats finish off their stretch of 10 consecutive road games Wednesday as they travel to Fairfield to take on the Stags at Alumni Baseball Diamond with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
