Field Hockey Looks for Third Win of Season Against Friars

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey returns home to the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats host the Providence Friars in their third meeting of the 2020-21 season with game time set for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac struggled in a pair of games with the UConn Huskies last time out, falling 7-0 in Hamden before losing in Storrs, 8-0.
Scouting Providence
Providence enters Saturday's game with a 1-6 record on the season and are 0-2 against Quinnipiac. The Friars won their first game of the season with a shootout win at Temple on Saturday before coming up short, 1-0, the following day. Providence replaced the matchup with Quinnipiac on Thursday against Northeastern and fell, 2-1, in overtime. Niamh Gowing leads the Friars with two goals on the season while Amanda Collins and Nora Goddard-Despot also scored for the Friars.
All-Time vs. Providence
The Bobcats are 2-6 against the Friars after taking the first two meetings between the two teams this season. Quinnipiac's entered the season with six straight losses to Providence before earning the season-opening win.
Senior Day
Quinnipiac will honor the three members of its Class of 2021 on Saturday with their annual senior day celebrations, recognizing Kaylah Igarta, Alyssa Watson and Brooke Whipkey. The three seniors have made key impacts throughout their careers both in the classroom and on the field, and have embodied what it means to be a Bobcat.
Kaylah Igarta
Igarta has played in four games this season for the Bobcats and six times in her career. Academically, she was a 2019 BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.
Alyssa Watson
One of the Bobcats' captains, Watson has been a stand out for four years for the Bobcats as she has played in 29 games with 10 starts. She scored her first career goal at UMass Lowell on Sept. 23, 2018, as she saw time in a career-high 11 games. In her career, she is a four-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection and two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.
Brooke Whipkey
Another captain for the Bobcats, Whipkey has started 22 of the 42 games she has played in her career and registered seven goals with six assists for 20 points. Whipkey had six goals and three assists in 2018 for the Bobcats. In the classroom, Whipkey is a four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and National Academic Squad pick, as well as a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection
La Nina
Goalkeeper Nina Santore made four saves in her last appearance for the Bobcats against the Huskies. Santore has been busy in her six starts, making 39 saves to average over six saves per game so far for the Bobcats.
Mack Attack
Mack Vorel tied her career-high with 15 saves for the Bobcats in a loss at UConn on Sunday. She made nine saves on 12 shots in the first period to hold the Huskies to just a 3-0 lead. She was tested in even more in the second half and came away with six more saves in her first start of the season.
Jessie's World
Jess Halley recorded her first career two-goal game with a pair of tallies at Providence on March 21. Halley had just one goal in her career before the game at Providence in which she came away with two goals. She has a career-high six points this season, equal to her point total from her first two seasons as a Bobcat.
