Megan Szawlowski Matches Single Game Career High in Goals in the Defeat
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team dropped the team's first game of 2021, 13-10, to the Fairfield Stags on Saturday afternoon in Fairfield. The in-state rivals went back-and-forth in the first half and were tied 6-6 to end the opening 30 minutes. The Stags, however, came out firing in the second half, going on a seven-goal streak.
Quinnipiac netted the last four goals of the second half, but could not complete the comeback. Graduate student Megan Szawlowski tied her career-high for goals in a single game with five. First year Kelly Bergersen scored her first collegiate goal late in the second half.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Bobcats struck first with a goal from sophomore Emily Feeney, who netted a free-position shot 54 seconds into the first half.
- The Stags took a 3-2 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the first half after a three-goal run. Ellie Grefenstette tallied two goals less than one minute apart as the Stags went on an early run.
- Quinnipiac came storming back, scoring the next four goals of the half. Sophomore midfielder Desiree Kleberg scored her first of the year with 10 minutes left in the half. Graduate student Megan Szawlowski scored her second of the game off a nice shot from outside of the circle. Szawlowski and junior Maddie Deegan each added a goal to give the Bobcats a 6-4 lead.
- The Stags came back and tied the game 6-6 right before the end of the first half.
- Fairfield kept their momentum going into the second half and went on a five-goal run. Diana DeVita tallied back-to-back goals, and Rylee Harrell and Kelly Horning followed with goals of their own to give the Stags a 10-6 lead. With 17:06 left in the game, Brooke Lennon scored her second goal of the game for the Stags.
- First-year Kelly Bergersen tallied her first-career goal to end the Stag's seven-goal run in the second half.
- Szawlowski added two more goals in the second half, followed by a goal from Sophia Iaccino with 34 seconds to play in the half.
- The Stags held on to win, 13-10.
- Szawlowski recorded her first multi-point game of the year with five goals, which ties her career-high for goals in a single game.
- The Stags outshot the Bobcats, 32-25.
- Sophmore goalie Kat Henselder tallied nine saves in the loss.
- Fairfield converted 12 of 17 clear attempts, and Quinnipiac converted 10 of 18 attempts.
- The Bobcats had 20 turnovers as compared to the Stags' 17.
- Quinnipiac forced 11 caused turnovers, and Fairfield forced 10.
- The Bobcats will take on the Stags once more on Monday, March 8 in Fairfield at 3 p.m.
