Bobcats Head to Rider for First MAAC Series of 2021 Season

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team is set to begin the 2021 campaign on the road against the Rider Broncs. The Bobcats will play their first games since March 11, 2020 (374 days to be exact) in Lawrenceville, N.J. The Bobcats will play four games total this weekend against Rider with a double header on Saturday and Sunday.

Bobcats are Back
Quinnipiac will play in its first MAAC series since May 4, 2019. The Bobcats competed in 2020, recording a 2-9 record, but the team did not compete in a conference game due to the cancelation of the season and COVID-19 pandemic.
Newcomers Ready to Get Going
The Bobcats welcomed seven first-year to the team including two pitchers, three outfielders, one infielder and one catcher. Three first-year Bobcats hail from the West Coast, one comes from Florida and three come from the Northeast.
The Returners
Quinnipiac returns 14 letter-winners from the abbrieviated 2020 season. Seniors Brighid Douglas and Kayla Jensen look to lead the underclassmen through the 2021 campaign, alongside graduate transfer Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings. Jensen led the team in both the 2020 and 2019 seasons with a .333 and .339 batting average. Juniors Bridget Nasir and Hannah Davis will also serve as veterans of the Bobcats' program and will look to lead the team through the season.
A Look at the MAAC
The Bobcats were voted to finish ninth in the 2021 MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Monmouth came out on top with eight first place votes as the preseason favorite, followed by Marist in second. The Broncs were voted to finish 10th.
Scouting Rider
The Broncs went 1-12 in the team's first few games of the 2020 season. Rider returners 2019 All-MAAC Second Team member Kelsey Marigliano, who led the team with a .323 batting average and 25 runs. In addition, Rider welcomed back senior pitcher Debra Jones, who recorded four wins and 67 strikeouts in 2019.
