
Bobcats Take Down Canisius in Home Opener

Seven Bobcats Find the Back of the Net in the Win
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team won its home opener as the Bobcats defeated Canisius, 13-10, on Friday afternoon. Graduate student Megan Szawlowski found the back of the net four times and sophomore goalkeeper Kat Henselder made 12 saves for the Bobcats.
Sophomore midfielder Desiree Kleberg recorded four points on the afternoon, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist. In total, seven Bobcats found the back of the net in the victory.
Sophomore midfielder Sophia Iaccino once again stuffed the stat sheet as she recorded two points with a goal and assist, picked up five ground balls, had four draw controls and caused three turnovers for Quinnipiac.

GAME SUMMARY
- A hot start paced the Bobcats to an early 3-0 lead. Three Quinnipiac players found the back of the net as Emily Feeney, Megan Szawlowski and Maddie Noel all put tallies on the board for the Bobcats.
- Canisius answered back with three goals of its own, but Szawlowski put an end to the run with her second goal of the day to give Quinnipiac a 4-3 lead.
- The Bobcats went on to score two more goals after regaining the lead, taking a 6-3 lead just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.
- Both teams scored one more goal in the half. The Bobcats entered halftime with a 7-4 lead.
- Noel scored the first goal of the half, extending Quinnipiac's lead to 8-4.
- Canisius scored four straight to tie the game at eight with just under 20 minutes remaining in the half.
- Szawlowski once again put an end to a Canisius run with her third of the day, giving the Bobcats a 9-8 lead. She would also score the next goal to give Quinnipiac a two-goal cushion.
- Two more goals from the Bobcats gave them a 4-0 run and a 12-8 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
- Liza Bailey found the back of the net for the final Bobcats goal of the day as they close out the win, 13-10.
- The Bobcats edged Canisius in total shots, 38-32, as well as shots on goal, 29-22.
- Both teams were very efficient clearing their defensive zones as Quinnipiac went 19-21 on clears and Canisius went 15-16.
- Canisius won 13 draw controls compared to 12 for the Bobcats.
- The Bobcats forced 15 Canisius turnovers.
- Megan Szawlowski's four goals pushed her season total to 10. She now has 60 goals in her Bobcat career.
- The Bobcats welcome Iona to Hamden on Friday, March 19. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
