HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team hosts its first home game in over a year as Canisius comes to Hamden for a Friday afternoon game. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be seen live on gobobcats.com.
LAST TIME OUT
Quinnipiac kicked off its 2021 season with two games at Fairfield. The Bobcats and Stags played two tightly contested games, but Fairfield came out on top in both games. Graduate student Megan Szawlowski found the back of the net six times, including setting a new single game career high with five goals in Saturday's matchup. Maddie Deegan, Sophia Iaccino and Gabby Beckett all recorded five points in the two games. Deegan and Iaccino both scored four goals and dished out an assist while Beckett scored one goal and dished out four assists. Her four assists came in Monday's game, which was a new single game career high. Iaccino tallied 11 draw controls, six ground balls and and caused four turnovers for the Bobcats.
SCOUTING CANISIUS
The Griffs opened up their season with two games at Siena. In their first game vs. the Saints, Canisius fell 6-5 in a defensive battle. In the second game of the back-to-back, the Griffs allowed 17 Siena goals and only scored eight to close out their opening weekend, 0-2.
ALL-TIME VS. CANISIUS
The Bobcats are 3-5 against the Griffs in program history. The last matchup between the two teams was in 2019 and Quinnipiac took home the victory, 14-13.
THE BOBCATS IN 2020
In a pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Quinnipiac posted a record of 3-4. The Bobcats tallied wins against LIU, Bryant and Old Dominion. The win against ODU was the program's first win against a BIG EAST foe.
2021 SEASON FORMAT

FIFTH YEAR UNDER KOTOWICZ
Head Coach Tanya Kotowicz enters her fifth season at the helm of the Bobcats. Under Kotowicz, the Bobcats have brought in two straight first year classes that have made an immediate impact. In 2020, midfielders Desiree Kleberg and Sophia Iaccino both earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors. Kleberg earned the award twice while Iaccino earned the award once. In 2019, the Bobcats had two MAAC All-Rookie Team selections as midfielders Gabby Beckett and Maddie Deegan were given the honor. Since Kotowicz's first season in 2017, the Bobcats have improved every season in total and conference wins, including one birth in the MAAC tournament.
THE RETURN OF SWAZ
Graduate attack Megan Szawlowski returns in 2021 for the Bobcats. She was Quinnipiac's leading scorer from a season ago, recording 21 points from 17 goals and four assists. In her two-plus seasons with the Bobcats, the Holyoke, Mass. native has 56 goals and 21 assists.
MIDFIELD MASTERCLASS
Nine of the 10 returning top scorers for the Bobcats all come from the midfield position. Juniors Gabby Beckett and Maddie Deegan were named to the 2019 MAAC All-Rookie Team. The pair of them recorded 25 combined points one season ago. Sophomores Desiree Kleberg and Sophia Iaccino both earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors a season ago. Kleberg and Iaccino combined for 23 points in 2019.
NEWCOMERS, WELCOME TO HAMDEN
The Bobcats welcome seven new faces to the squad for the 2021 season. Transfer Annie Morrison and first years Julia Steneck, Chelsea Akins, Kelly Bergersen, Maddie Noel, Kalie Moore and Hadley Bosworth are all entering their first season's as Bobcats.
