MAAC Defensive Player of the Year MIkala Morris Scores 15 Points, Grabs Nine Boards in the Loss

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team fell in the MAAC Quarterfinals to Rider, 62-50 on Wednesday afternoon from Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.

MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Mikala Morris led the Bobcats offensively with 15 points. The Springfield, Ohio native grabbed nine rebounds and recorded three steals for the Bobcats.

Junior guard Rose Caverly chipped in with 12 points for the Bobcats, knocking down two shots from behind the arc.

GAME SUMMARY

A hot shooting start for the Bobcats helped them take an early 11-8 lead heading into the first media timeout. Quinnipiac shot 4-of-7 from the field and knocked down all three of its three point attempts in the opening five minutes.
Quinnipiac continued its hot shooting, extending its lead to 20-11 with just under two minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Rider concluded the quarter on a 6-0 run to cut its deficit to 20-17.
The Rider run continued into the second quarter as the Broncs extended it to a 10-0 run, taking a 21-20 lead.
The Broncs outscored Quinnipiac, 9-5 in the second quarter to take a 26-25 lead into halftime.
Out of halftime, the Bobcats began the second half on an 8-0 run, taking a 33-26 lead.
Rider answered back with a 6-0 run of its own, cutting the Bobcat lead to 33-32.
The Bobcats closed out the third quarter with a 41-37 lead.
After the Bobcats scored the first basket of the fourth quarter, the Broncs scored the next 10 points, giving them a 47-43 lead, forcing a Quinnipiac timeout.
Rider played a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats, 25-9 in the final frame to win the contest, 62-50.

NUMBERS AND NOTES

The Broncs shot 44 percent from the floor compared to the Bobcats' 29 percent.
Both teams committed 16 turnovers. The Bobcats converted those into 18 points, compared to just 10 for the Broncs.
Rider shot 9-of-18 from deep, while the Bobcats shot 6-of-20.
The battle on the boards was won by the Bobcats, 37-33. 18 of Quinnipiac's rebounds came on the offensive side of the floor.
