EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac women's basketball sophomore forward Mikala Morris has been named MAAC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday, March 1.
In the Bobcats' weekend split with Niagara, the Springfield, Ohio native averaged 16.5 points per game and 17.5 rebounds per game. Morris recorded her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season in the two games. She is one of 48 players in the country to record nine or more double-doubles this season.
In the Friday night matchup, Morris grabbed a career-high 23 rebounds in the Bobcat victory. Her 23 rebounds is the fourth most in program history and the most for any Quinnipiac player since Monique Lee recorded 25 against Monmouth on March 5, 2005. Morris recorded the most rebounds of any MAAC player this season and is the fifth NCAA women's basketball player to record 23 or more rebounds in a game this season. The sophomore forward added 10 points in the game.
On Saturday, Morris recorded another double-double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She had a stellar shooting performance, knocking down 10 of her 12 attempts from the field.
Morris finds herself among the conference leaders in multiple categories. She is fifth in points per game with 13.6, first in rebounds per game with 10.8 and second in blocked shots per game with 2.2.
This is the third time that Morris has been named MAAC Player of the Week this season. Two other Bobcats have also received weekly honors this season. Rose Caverly has been named MAAC Player of the Week once and College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week once.
