Quinnipiac women's ice hockey back in action at home vs SHU
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will host the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 12 p.m. The Bobcats and the Pioneers will meet for the third time this season. Quinnipiac was schedule to face St. Lawrence this weekend, but that series was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols with the Saints.

Last Time Out
The Bobcats split a home series with the Clarkson Golden Knights last week at home. Quinnipiac moved to 1-3 in ECAC play and 6-3 overall; Clarkson is also 1-3 in conference and 5-5-1 overall.
Quinnipiac won the first game in a thrilling overtime victory. Senior Taylor House scored the overtime winning goal one minute and 17 seconds into the extra period. Junior Lexie Adzija tallied the Bobcats' first goal of the game. Three first years recorded assists in the win – Kendall Cooper, Maddy Samoskevich and Olivia Mobley. Redshirt sophomore Courtney Vorster also recorded an assist. In the net, redshirt sophomore Logan Angers had a stellar game, recording 35 saves, which is a career high.
In game two of the weekend, the Bobcats outshot the Golden Knights 43-23, but fell short in the end, 3-1. Quinnipiac's 43 shots were the most recorded against Clarkson since Jan. 8, 2011 when the Bobcats won 3-2 in overtime. Senior Renee Saltness scored the Bobcats' lone goal in the loss.
Scouting SHU
The Pioneers will return to Hamden with an 0-3 record on the season. Sacred Heart is a member of the NEWHA conference, but has only play non-conference matchups this season due to the other institutions' pauses on athletics. The Pioneers fell to the LIU Sharks, 4-1, on Jan. 27.
Last Time Against the Pioneers
The Bobcats have played the Pioneers two times prior this season, earning two wins (6-1 and 9-1). Six different Bobcats scored in the 6-1 win, which was the first game of the season and head coach Cass Turner's 100th career win. Senior Taylor House led the team in the 9-1 win with five points, and the Bobcats outshot the Pioneers, 61-9.
Adzija & Saltness on a Roll
Junior Lexie Adzija and senior Renee Saltness are leading the Bobcats on the offensive end. They both scored against the Golden Knights in the home series Jan. 23-24. Adzija leads the team with 13 points on six goals and seven assists and is currently ranked fourth in the nation in points per game (1.44). Saltness had recorded five goals and seven assists for 12 points this season, which is a career high. Both forwards have double-digit on-ice ratings and two game-winning goals together.
Record Scoring
Sixteen different Bobcats scored in a single game against LIU. Ten different skaters tallied at least one goal, and seven different players recorded a multi-point game, led by Adzija and Girard with four points each. First-year Kate Villeneuve scored two goals and her first as a Bobcat. Cooper had three points with two goals and one assists.
Boudiette in the Net
First-year netminder Catie Boudiette made her first career start against the LIU Sharks on Jan. 16 and notched her first career shutout on the same day. She earned her second career win the next day with another shutout to complete the weekend. Boudiette is just the second netminder in program history to have back-to-back shutouts in her first career starts; redshirt sophomore Logan Angers was the first netminder to earn the recognition.
Cooper in Control
First-year defensemen Kendall Cooper leads the Bobcat defense with three goals and four assists for seven points. She is currently ranked second in the nation in points per game (defensemen & first years), averaging 1.00 points. She has tallied two game-winning goals and 24 shots on goal.
First-Year Frenzy
After just the five games played, all six of Quinnipiac's first-year skaters have recorded at least one point. Cooper leads all first-year scoring on the team with three goals and three assists for six points.
Angers vs the Golden Knights
Redshirt-sophomore Logan Angers had a breakout weekend against the Clarkson Golden Knights. The netminder made 35 saves in the Bocbats 2-1 overtime win. Assistant coach Amanda Alessi noted that it was Angers' best performance of her career.
House in OT
Senior Taylor House scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Jan. 23 when the Bocbats took down the Golden Knights. It was her first game-winning goal of the season. She now is third on the team in scoring with three goals and six assists for nine points.
Scoring Offense
The Bobcats still hold the best scoring offense in the nation, averaging 4.56 goals per game. In addition, Quinnipiac is holding opponents to 1.56 goals per game, which is seventh-best in the country.
Alumnae in the Bubble
The NWHL began its 2021 season in a bubble format in Lake Placid, N.Y. Eight alumnae are playing for NWHL teams this season. Shiann Darkangelo, Emma Woods, Emma Greco and Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout will lace up for the Toronto Six. Abbie Ives, Kenzie Lancaster and Elena Orlando will play for the Connecticut Whale. Kelly Babstock will play for the Metropolitan Riveters.
A Look at the ECAC Standings
Colgate holds the first spot in the ECAC standings with 16 points and a 6-2 conference record. Clarkson sits in second with 10 points and a 3-3 conference record. St. Lawrence and Quinnipiac are tied with two points, but both the Saints and Bobcats lost two weekend series due to COVID-19 protocols. The Saints and Bobcats will look to make up the games schedules from Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 6-7.
Do It For Daron
The Bobcats are excited to continue a tradition this year that focuses on raising money and awareness for mental health initiatives. The Do It For Daron or DIFD organization promotes mental health awareness and the team will be partnering with the organizaiton again this year.
