Strong Offensive Attack Lifts Quinnipiac in In-State Rivalry Matchup

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team pulled out a hard fought victory over the Fairfield Stags, winning 67-55 on Friday evening in Hamden. The Bobcats took control of the game in the third quarter and never looked back en route to the win.

Westminster, Md native Mackenzie DeWees, had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds and added four steals.

Sophomore forward Mikala Morris led the Bobcats offensively with 19 points and nine rebounds. The Springfield, Ohio native also dished out seven assists in the victory.

Junior guard Rose Caverly had a career night knocking down five shots from behind the arc. The Brick, N.J. native finished the game with 18 points, her second-highest total as a Bobcat.

    ● Fairfield opened the game with three quick buckets, but the Bobcats quickly came back to score with the Stags taking a 4-point lead at the 3-minute mark in the opening frame.
    ● Quinnipiac closed the quarter with an 18-12 disadvantage against the Stags going into the second quarter.
    ● The Bobcats tried to answer by eight points, en route to a three-point hole.
    ● The Bobcats tied the game with a minute left in the quarter.
    ● The hosts began the third quarter with a three-pointer making the score 30-25 with eight minutes left in the quarter, but the Stags were quick to answer with a two-point bucket.
    ● The Bobcats extended their lead by three points with five minutes left in the third quarter as the Stags notched a two-pointer and are forced to take a timeout with Quinnipiac maintaining a 39-35 lead.
    ● Quinnipiac started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer as the lead ballooned to 50-39 with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
    ● Quinnipiac outscored Fairfield in the final quarter to take the victory, 67-55.
