Men's Ice Hockey Senior Captain One of 15 Nominees in Nation
- MEN'S HOCKEY CANDIDATES ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2020-21 SENIOR CLASS AWARD
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey senior captain Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) has been named one of 15 candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award, as announced on Friday, Feb. 12.
Tufto is one of three ECAC Hockey student-athletes nominated for the award, joining Clarkson's Connor McCarthy and Colgate's Paul McAvoy.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of candidates follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey has had two players recognized as Senior CLASS All-Americans as Chase Priskie '19 was named a Second Team All-American in 2019 and Jean-Marc Beaudoin '10 in 2010.
Earlier this season, Tufto was nominated as a candidate for the Hobey Baker Award, was named the Hockey Commissioners' Association Men's National Player of the Month and has been named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week on Jan. 11 and ECAC Hockey First Star of the Week on Dec. 28.
Tufto leads the nation with 25 assists and is second with 29 points. He also ranks fifth among centers nationally with a .613 faceoff percentage.
In his career, Tufto leads all seniors with 115 assists and 150 career points, and is the only senior averaging over a point per game in his career. Tufto's 35 career goals are tied for 21st among the Class of 2021.
Tufto's numbers also rank among the best in Quinnipiac men's ice hockey history as he is third in program history with 115 assists, trailing only Reid Cashman '07 with 125 assists and Bryan Leitch '09 with 116. He is also eighth in program history, and third in Division I program history, with 150 points.
The 15 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later this month. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
Quinnipiac men's ice hockey kicks off a weekend series at Colgate tonight with puck drop set 5 p.m. at Class of 1965 Arena in Hamilton, N.Y.
