
Women's Hoops Ranked No. 16 in Mid-Major Top-25

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's basketball team enters the 2021-22 season ranked No. 16 in the Women's Mid-Major Top 25 rankings, earning 292 points, as announced by the College Insider committee earlier this week.
The only team in the MAAC ranked in the poll, Quinnipiac's schedule has the Bobcats set to face three schools who are receiving votes in the College Insider preseason mid-major poll. The Bobcats will play host to Yale (Dec. 1), before taking on Marist and Manhattan twice in conference play.
The Bobcats finished with a 13-8 (11-5 MAAC) mark in 2020-21 – the program's 10th straight winning season under Head Coach Tricia Fabbri. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fabbri returns 11 members from last year's team that paced the conference in scoring and posted the second-best scoring margin. Since joining the MAAC in 2013-14, Fabbri has led the Bobcats to four conference championships.
Among the returners is junior Mikala Morris and senior Mackenzie DeWees, both earning unanimous Preseason All-MAAC First Team honors. The reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Morris was the leading rebounder in the conference (10.7), while also finishing in fifth in scoring (13.7). A defensive stalwart for the Bobcats, she ranked second in the conference in blocked shots, 10th in steals, and first in both offensive and defensive rebounds per game. A three-time MAAC Player of the Week, Morris also found herself inside the top-35 nationally in blocked shots (35th), blocks per game (33rd) and rebounds per game (25th).
DeWees, the reigning MAAC Player of the Year, enjoyed a breakout junior campaign in 2020-21. The rising senior concluded last season ranked inside the top eight in the MAAC in points (6th), rebounds (6th), field goal percentage (1st), steals (4th) and assist-to-turnover ratio (7th). A native of Westminster, Md., DeWees tallied career-high averages in points (13.0), rebounds (7.7), steals (2.6), minutes (34.9) and field goals (5.1).
The Bobcats revealed their full schedule on July 22. will open the season at Fordham on Nov. 9. The program will also host four non-league games at the People's United Center, including the home-opener against No. 8 Indiana on Nov. 20.
