
Women's Hoops Tabbed First in Preseason MAAC Poll

Morris, Dewees and Caverly Earn Preseason All-MAAC Honors
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's basketball senior guard Mackenzie Dewees and junior forward Mikala Morris have both been named to the Preseason All-MAAC First Team unanimously, as announced by the MAAC office on Tuesday during the 2021-22 Basketball Preseason Awards Show on ESPN3. Senior guard Rose Caverly also earned individual honors, being selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team.
The Bobcats have been tabbed No. 1 in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 115 total votes and six first place votes. Trailing Quinnipiac in second was Manhattan with 105 votes (2), followed by Fairfield at 99 votes (1) and reigning MAAC Tournament champions Marist with 93 votes (1). Fairfield's Lou Lopez-Senechal was tabbed as the conference's Preseason Player of the Year.

Dewees, the reigning MAAC Player of the Year, enjoyed a breakout junior campaign in 2020-21. The rising senior concluded last season ranked inside the top eight in the MAAC in points (6th), rebounds (6th), field goal percentage (1st), steals (4th) and assist-to-turnover ratio (7th). A native of Westminster, Md., Dewees tallied career-high averages in points (13.0), rebounds (7.7), steals (2.6), minutes (34.9) and field goals (5.1).
The reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Morris, returns for her junior campaign in 2021-22. A native of Springfield, Oh., Morris was the leading rebounder in the conference (10.7), while also finishing in fifth in scoring (13.7). A defensive stalwart for the Bobcats, she ranked second in the conference in blocked shots, 10th in steals, and first in both offensive and defensive rebounds per game. A three-time MAAC Player of the Week, Morris also found herself inside the top-35 nationally in blocked shots (35th), blocks per game (33rd) and rebounds per game (25th).
A native of Brick, N.J., Caverly returns for her senior campaign after earning All-MAAC Third Team honors a season ago. Caverly made an instant impact in her first season in Hamden, averaging 10.4 points per game while making starts in all 21 games for the Bobcats. A two-time Player of the Week winner (MAAC and College Sports Madness), she ranked third in the MAAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0) and fifth in assists (4.8).
The Bobcats finished with a 13-8 (11-5 MAAC) mark in 2020-21 – the program's 10th straight winning season under Head Coach Tricia Fabbri. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fabbri returns 11 members from last year's team that paced the conference in scoring and posted the second-best scoring margin. Since joining the MAAC in 2013-14, Fabbri has led the Bobcats to four conference championships.
The Bobcats revealed their full schedule on July 22. will open the season at Fordham on Nov. 9. The program will also host four non-league games at the People's United Center, including the home-opener against No. 8 Indiana on Nov. 20.
