
Marfo, Rigoni Earn Preseason All-MAAC Honors

Bobcats Season Begins Nov. 9 at #21 Maryland
EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac men's basketball graduate students Kevin Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J.) and Jacob Rigoni (Adelaide, Australia) have been named to the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team, as announced by the league during its annual Basketball Preseason Awards Show on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
Rigoni announced his return to Quinnipiac for a fifth year on July 19. He led Quinnipiac in both scoring (11.8 PPG) and rebounding (6.3 RPG) last season, earning a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team. The forward surpassed 1,000 career points during his senior campaign in 2020-21, becoming the 17th Bobcat in Division I program history to reach the milestone.
Rigoni also set a new program career record for made 3-point field goals (259). He is the only Quinnipiac student-athlete that has been on each QU roster since Baker Dunleavy was named Head Coach ahead of the 2017-18 season.
Rigoni was the second QU student-athlete to announce his return for the upcoming year. Quinnipiac revealed the return of forward Kevin Marfo on April 26, 2021. Marfo led the nation in rebounding (13.3 RPG) in 2019-20 for the Bobcats, then spent the 2020-21 season at Texas A&M. While at Quinnipiac in 2019-20, Marfo registered 10.2 points per game to go along with the country's best rebounding mark. The forward recorded a MAAC-best 17 double-doubles that season, grabbing 10+ rebounds in 29 of QU's 30 contests.
Marfo played in 17 games for Texas A&M in 2020-21, finishing second on the team in field goal percentage (46.4%) and third in rebounding (3.7 RPG).
Quinnipiac Head Coach Baker Dunleavy recently completed his fourth season as Head Coach at Quinnipiac. He helped guide the Bobcats to nine wins this past season, including an 8-5 record at the People's United Center in Hamden.
Quinnipiac won four of its last seven regular season MAAC games. The Bobcats ranked No. 8 nationally in defensive field goal percentage last season, as opponents shot just 39.0% from the field against QU. Quinnipiac also grabbed 28.32 defensive rebounds per game in 2020-21, which ranked best in the MAAC and No. 17 nationally.
The Bobcats revealed their full non-conference schedule on Aug. 23. Quinnipiac will open the season at #21 Maryland on Nov. 9. The program will also host five non-league games at the People's United Center.
