Sophomore Forward Earns Honor for Second Time This Season
EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac women's basketball sophomore forward Mikala Morris has been named MAAC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Jan. 25.
The Springfield, Ohio native tallied two more double-doubles in the weekend series over Rider, averaging 18 points and 10.5 rebounds. Morris is one of 39 players in the country to record at least six double-doubles this season.
In Friday's matchup with the Broncs, Morris scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 27 minutes of action. Morris shot 50 percent from the floor and knocked down her only attempt from behind the arc in the Bobcats' victory. In Saturday's game, she scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the overtime loss to the Broncs.
Morris is averaging 13.8 points per game, which is the fifth most in the conference, 9.8 rebounds per game, which is the second most in the conference, and she is leading the conference in blocks with 2.4 per game.
This is the second time this season that Morris has been named MAAC Player of the Week, previously earning the honor back in December for her performances against Manhattan.
Two other Bobcats have earned player of the week honors in the 2020-21 campaign. Junior guard Mackenzie DeWees was named MAAC player of the week by the conference and College Sports Madness on Jan. 11. DeWees was also named to the NCAA Women's Hoops Starting Five in the same week. Junior guard Rose Caverly was named MAAC Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Nov. 30.
