Toews '17, Islanders Set for NHL's Eastern Conference Finals

Former Bobcat Star Last Remaining Alum in Stanley Cup Playoffs
EDMONTON, Alberta – Former Quinnipiac men's ice hockey defenseman Devon Toews '17 and the New York Islanders are set for action in the NHL's Eastern Conference Finals, putting him one round away from advancing to the Stanley Cup Final.
Action begins for Toews and the Islanders Monday night with puck drop set for 8 p.m. at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Toews' appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals marks the second straight season a Quinnipiac alum has reached this round after Connor Clifton '17 and the Boston Bruins did so last season.
Toews had an exceptional second round of the NHL playoffs as he racked up a goal and three assists for four points as the Islanders defeated the No. 1 seed Philadelphia Flyers in seven games to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
In addition to his four points, Toews also had a +4 plus/minus rating as well as 10 hits and 14 blocked shots. He averaged 20:40 in time on ice and 26 shifts per game.
So far this postseason, Toews has been stellar as he has a goal and seven assists for eight points in 16 games as well as 14 hits and 31 blocked shots. He has an average time on ice of 20:16 this postseason.

Clifton and the Bruins, and Brogan Rafferty '20 and the Vancouver Canucks, both saw their seasons come to an end in the second round of the NHL Playoffs. The Bruins fell in five games to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1, while the Canucks fell in 7 games to the Vegas Golden Knights, 4-3.
Clifton had an assist in his four games played against the Lightning, with his assist coming on the game-tying goal to force overtime in Game 5 before the Bruins ultimately fell in the second overtime. He finished the 2020 Postseason with a goal and two assists for three points, and now has three goals and five assists for eight points in his NHL Postseason career.
Rafferty did not see ice time during the 2020 Postseason, where he regularly skated in practice for the Canucks. He gained valuable experience as he looks to earn a spot on the Canucks roster for the 2020-21 season after being voted to the AHL Second All-Star Team and the AHL All-Rookie Team.
