HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team takes a spring break trip down south as they take on the Old Dominion Monarchs on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team fell to Binghamton, 10-8 on Saturday afternoon in Hamden. Eight different Bobcats recorded a goal for Quinnipiac in the loss. Senior goalkeeper Allie Kelsey was strong in net as the Barrington, R.I. native made 12 saves and recorded a .545 save percentage. The senior netminder made nine of her 12 saves in the first half. The Bearcats scored the first goal of the game, but Quinnipiac answered back with three straight goals to give them an early 3-1 lead. Senior attacker Megan Szawlowski recorded two first half points. She scored the Bobcats' first goal and then assisted a Desiree Kleberg goal, which gave the Bobcats a 5-2 lead in the first half. The Bobcats took a 6-5 lead into the half. Binghamton went on an extended 6-0 that continued after halftime to give them a 9-6 lead with less than 10 minutes left in the 2nd half. The Bobcats answered that Binghamton run with two goals within :36 seconds of each other. Senior attacker Ashley Bobinski scored her third goal of the season, and then first-year midfielder Emily Feeney supplied the quick answer as she netted her fourth goal of the season to get the Bobcats within one, 9-8. Sophomore midfielder Gabby Beckett led all Bobcats with three draw controls. Senior's Brianna Fitzgerald and Megan Szawlowski led the Bobcats with two caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Maddie Deegan led all Quinnipiac players with three ground balls.
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
Old Dominion has a 3-5 record through the first eight games of their season. The Monarchs have defeated VCU, Winthrop and Radford for their three victories this season. They are coming into the game with the Bobcats on a three game losing streak, most recently falling to No. 20 Richmond, 22-9. The Monarchs are led by senior attacker Glory Johnson as she leads the Monarchs in goals (26), assists (11), points (37) and draw controls (61). Johnson's goal tally is the 11th most in the country, her 37 points are good enough for 12th in the country and her 7.63 draw controls per game ranks ninth in the nation.
DESIREE'S DIMES
First-year midfielder Desiree Kleberg dished out four assists in the win against Hartford. The Huntington Station, N.Y. native five assists on the season, which leads the team.
SWAZ SCORES
Senior attacker Megan Szawlowski has scored multiple goals in every game so far this season, including a five goal game against LIU. She leads the team with 15 goals so far this season.
KELSEY'S CAREER HIGH
Senior goalkeeper Allie Kelsey stopped a career-high 15 shots in the Bobcats game at Wagner on Saturday. She has made 55 saves in the Bobcats first six games this season.
THREE MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEKS
First-year midfielder Desiree Kleberg was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career, as announced by the conference office on Monday, February 17. Kleberg recorded four points (3 goals, 1 assist) in the Bobcats games against Bryant and Wagner. First-year midfielder Sophia Iaccino then earned the award the following week, which was announced by the league office on Monday, February 24. Iaccino scored a hat trick in less than 14 minutes of game time against LIU. The Farmingdale, N.Y. native also picked up three ground balls and recorded one draw control in the Bobcat victory. Kleberg won the award again on Monday, March 9 for her play against Hartford (career-high four assists) and Binghamton (one goal, one draw control and one caused turnover).
MIDFIELD MACHINES
First-year midfielder Desiree Kleberg recorded a hat trick in her first career game. Reigning MAAC All-Rookie Team selection Gabby Beckett also recorded a hat trick against Bryant. The sophomore midfielder added an assist to finish the season opener with four points. Senior midfielder Brianna Fitzgerald scored a goal, dished out an assist, picked up three ground balls and recorded two draw controls against Bryant.
THE 2020 CAMPAIGN
The 16-game regular season runs from February 12 to April 18, and will feature two opponents that reached the 2019 NCAA Tournament in Wagner and Fairfield. In addition, seven of Quinnipiac's opponents won at least nine games each a year ago. The program's eight regular season home competitions feature non-conference matchups with Connecticut, Hartford, Binghamton, and Hofstra (Senior Day), while the team travels to Bryant, LIU, Old Dominion, and reigning Northeast Conference champion Wagner.
LOTS OF PRODUCTION RETURNING
Nine of the top 11 point producers from a year ago return to the roster for the 2020 season. Senior attack Megan Szawlowski recorded 50 points a season ago, which ranked second on the team. She found the back of the net 33 times, while adding 17 assists. Two 2019 MAAC All-Rookie Team selections return in 2020 for the Bobcats. in sophomore midfielder Maddie Deegan and sophomore midfielder Gabby Beckett. Deegan tallied 21 points last season, scoring 17 goals and dishing out four assists. Beckett recorded 17 points from 10 goals and seven assists last season.

The 2020 Quinnipiac women's lacrosse team consists of 11 first years, six sophomores, six juniors and eight seniors.
SEASONED SENIOR CLASS
Every player that is in the 2020 senior class appeared in at least six games in 2019. The eight seniors combined for 93 points last season. Goalkeeper Allie Kelsey saw action in 11 games last season, making eight starts, including a game at Marist where she made 12 saves. Defender Haley Everding returns for her senior season after starting every game in her career so far.
MEET THE NEWCOMERS
