Nicolosi Pitches Seven Shutout Innings, Seaburg Records First Career Three-Hit Game
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Quinnipiac baseball was dealt a hard luck loss Friday afternoon as the Bobcats dropped its series-opener at James Madison in 10 innings, 1-0, as the Dukes walked off after nine-and-a-half scoreless innings of baseball.
The pitching staffs for both teams were dominant all game long as the Bobcats' pitchers had scattered five hits through nine innings while the Dukes scattered six. Braydon Seaburg (Stratford, Connecticut) was the lone offensive bright spot for the Bobcats as he recorded three of the six hits Friday for the first hits of his collegiate career.
Christian Nicolosi (Stony Point, New York) was stellar in his second start of the season as he pitched seven scoreless innings in the longest start of his career as he scattered four hits and struck out five batters.
Nicolosi escaped two jams in the first two innings without allowing a run, starting in the first as he got Josh Jones to ground into a double play to Kyle Maves (Burlington, Ontario) at second to end the inning.
In the second inning, Nicolosi hit a pair of batters to open the inning and they moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt with one out but Nicolosi got the next two batters to ground out and strand the baserunners.
Quinnipiac had one of its best scoring chances in the top of the sixth inning as Seaburg reached on a fielding error and advanced to third on an Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) single to center field. Marrero stole second to put two runners in scoring position but the Bobcats couldn't bring them home.
James Madison brought home the game's lone run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as Nick Zona reached on a slow chopper to second base and Chase DeLauter drove him home with a single to left centerfield off Connor Mahoney (North Salem, New York).
