Abbott Scores Four Times, Bobcats Fall at No. 16 Rutgers in Season Opener

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Will Abbott led the way with four goals on Saturday afternoon at HIGHPOINT.com Stadium, as Quinnipiac men's lacrosse dropped its 2020 season opener at No. 16 Rutgers by the final score of 20-9.
Abboott scored twice in each half for the Bobcats, as first year John DeLucia added two goals of his own in the first game of the season. Matt Miller added one goal and two assists, and Jake Tomsik recorded one goal and one helper.

- The Bobcats went on a four-goal run during the second half. The run started with 1:24 left in the third quarter, and ended with 6:56 left in the fourth. Will Abbott scored twice in that span, while Jake Tellers and Matt Miller each added a goal.
- Abbott's four-point performance gives the sophomore 38 points over his first 17 collegiate games. The First Team All-MAAC selection in 2019 scored four times on just four shots.
- Total shots were 58-32 in favor of Rutgers.
- The Bobcats went 13-20 in clear attempts, and picked up 31 ground balls.
- Rutgers won 20 of 33 faceoffs.
- John DeLucia scored two goals on seven shots in his collegiate debut. His goals came with 11:31 left in the second quarter, and with 5:24 left in the second quarter. He also added five ground balls.
- Matt Miller now has eight goals and six assists for 14 points over his career with the Bobcats.
- Jake Tomsik's goal is the 65th score of his collegiate career. The Co-Preseason MAAC Player of the Year now has 106 career points for QU.
- Jake Tellers scored his first career goal with 13:51 left in the fourth, and Hunter Fasanaro picked up his third career assist in the game.
- Demitri George picked up a team-high 11 ground balls, winning all 13 faceoffs for QU.
- Sophomore Nick DiMuccio made 16 saves.
- Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8, traveling to UMass Lowell to continue non-conference action. The Bobcats first home game of the season is on Saturday, Feb. 15 vs. Brown.
