HAMDEN, Conn. – Despite career-high point and rebound totals from junior Amani Free, the Quinnipiac women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Army West Point, 51-50, at the People's United Center on Saturday afternoon.

Free recorded career highs in both points (16), and rebounds (7) in the loss, while unior guard Mackenzie DeWees recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

GAME SUMMARY

Army began the game on a 10-2 run to take an early lead in the contest.
The Black Knights sustained their strong defensive effort throughout the entire frame, finishing the first quarter with a 17-7 lead.
Quinnipiac made a run late in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 25-22 with 1:30 left in the period.
The Black Knights scored the final five points of the second quarter to take a 30-22 lead into halftime.
Quinnipiac faced a five point deficit with less than two minutes left in the third quarter, the smallest margin of the period, before opening the fourth quarter on an 8-3 run that lasted over five minutes of play.
The Black Knights responded with a 6-0 run to take a 49-43 lead with 1:19 left in the game.
WIth the Army lead at 50-47, Rose Caverly knocked in a game-tying three-pointer with less than six seconds to play, tying the game at 50.
Following a timeout, the Black Knights drew a foul with two seconds remaining and made one-of-two from the free throw line. A Caverly half-court heave at the buzzer fell short, giving Army a 51-50 victory.
