GAME NOTES:
First Roadie:
Quinnipiac heads to Baltimore, Md., to take on the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds for the first time since 2000. Quinnipiac won that game 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Nov. 4. The Bobcats are 2-0 on the season after defeating Bryant and URI in the first week of competition.
Scouting the Greyhounds:
Loyola Maryland has also played two non-conference games to start the 2019 season and have recorded a 1-1-0 record. The Greyhounds defeated Seton Hall, 2-1, in overtime and lost to VCU, 4-0. In the 4-0 loss to VCU, Loyola Maryland allowed four goals in the final 30 minutes of the second half.
History vs Patriot League:
This will be the first Patriot League matchup for Quinnipiac since the 2017 season. Since 2009, Quinnipiac has a 5-4-2 record against Patriot League teams with wins against Holy Cross and Army West Point.
Last Time Out:
Quinnipiac hosted URI on Wednesday, Aug. 28 and downed the Rams, 1-0, after a penalty kick goal from Kelsey Goldring in the 77th minute. Freshman Meaghan Phillips earned her second shutout in two games and is the first freshman to open her career with two shutouts as a Bobcat.
New Season, New Team:
Quinnipiac welcomes 11 newcomers to the squad, with five players coming from Ontario, four coming from New Jersey, Connecticut and Illinois, one from England and one from the Netherlands. Seventeen players will return from the 2018 roster, including Selena Salas, who received All-MAAC honors at the end of the season.
2019 MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll:
The Monmouth Hawks were selected to finish first in the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll, followed by Quinnipiac in second. Siena, Marist, Rider, Niagara, Fairfield, Manhattan, Canisius, Iona and Saint Peter's completed the preseason poll.Quinnipiac's Selena Salaswas voted to the Preseason All-MAAC team. Monmouth's Madie Gibson was named the Preseason Player of the Year.
