
Volleyball Drops Two Contests at Morgan State Invite

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team kicked off the 2019 season with two games at the Morgan State Invitational on Friday. The Bobcats took on William & Mary and Towson in their first two games of the invitational.
The Bobcats would fall in five sets in a back-and-forth match against William and Mary, and fall in three to Towson.

William & Mary 3, Quinnipiac 2, (25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 15-10)

Quinnipiac (0-1, 0-0 MAAC), William & Mary (1-0, 0-0 CAA)
SET ONE
William & Mary would get out to a 13-9 lead, resulting in a Quinnipiac timeout. William & Mary would finish out the set and win 25-15. Lauren Merrill had four kills in the set to lead the Tribe. Morgan Sherwin and Maggie Baker had two kills each and Aryanah Diaz added an ace for the Bobcats.
SET TWO
Quinnipiac got out to an early 4-2 lead in the game. The Bobcats and the Tribe would trade points leading to a 14 all tie halfway through the game. A three point run from William & Mary led to a Bobcats timeout. At 20-17 the Bobcats would make a three point run to even the score at 20. Bobcats would get out to a 23-20 lead and would hold off the Tribe to take the set 25-23. Kaleigh Oates paced the Bobcats with five kills and a .833 hitting percentage.
SET THREE
William & Mary would gain a lead of 7-5 early in the set. Quinnipiac would go on a 4-0 run, which would lead to a William & Mary timeout. The teams came out of the timeout at a 17-15 lead for the Tribe. The Bobcats made a run to cut the lead to 22-21, but William & Mary would take the final three points and take the set.
SET FOUR
Quinnipiac would jump out to an early 6-1 lead. William & Mary would go on a 6-0 run of their own to take a 7-6 lead in the set. The Bobcats would bounce back with a five point run and take a 14-9 lead, resulting in a William & Mary timeout. The Bobcats would continue to roll in the set, getting out to a 21-14 lead, resulting in another timeout from the Tribe. Bobcats would close out the set to win 25-17. The Bobcats had a match-best .550 hitting percentage in the set.
SET FIVE
William & Mary got out to a quick start with a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats would make runs in the fifth set, cutting the lead to 13-10. After a timeout from William & Mary, the Tribe would take the next two points to win the set.

Towson had a 19-17 lead late and would tack on two more points before a Bobcats timeout. Quinnipiac would win two straight points out of the timeout to cut the lead to 21-19, but the Tigers would hold on to win the set 25-20.
SET TWO
Towson jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the set and they would build an 11-3 lead, resulting in a Quinnipiac timeout. The Bobcats would take three of the next four points to cut the lead to 12-6. The Bobcats would go on a run to cut the Towson lead to 15-10, but Towson answered and the Bobcats would call a timeout with Towson leading 19-11. Towson would win the set 25-15.
SET THREE
Maggie Baker and Morgan Sherwin had back-to-back blocks to get the Bobcats going in the set. Towson would get out to a 17-9 lead in the third. Quinnipiac would win four straight points in the middle of the set to cut the lead to 17-13. Towson would close out the set to win 25-15.
