Bobcats are Co-Champions for First Time Since Joining the MAAC, Earn First Title Since 2007

Quinnipiac's regular season title is its first since joining the MAAC, and third at the Division I level after winning two in 2005 and 2007 as a member of the Northeast Conference. The Bobcats secured the No. 2 seed in the 2019 MAAC Tournament set to begin Wednesday at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island.
Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) continued his torrid pace at the plate as he went 4 for 5 with two home runs, two doubles, five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base. Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) racked up three hits as he went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored to help lead the offense.
Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) also scored four runs while he and Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) each had two RBIs.
Chris Enns (Canton, Connecticut) was spectacular in his sixth win of the season, striking out six batters in six innings of work while scattering seven hits and allowing just one run.

QUINNIPIAC SCORING PLAYS
FIRST INNING
- The first five batters of the game reached base and knocked out Manhattan starter Jacob Knight without recording an out.
- Brian Moskey (Higganum, Connecticut) walked to lead off the game and moved up to third on a double from Marrero.
- Ostberg singled to center to score Moskey before Vulgamore doubled to left to score Marrero and put runners back on second and third.
- Bender singled to left center to score Ostberg and make it 3-0
- After the pitching change, Anthony Cruz (Burlington, Massachusetts) grounded into a double play but Vulgamore came home to score and take a 4-0 lead.
- Marrero led off the inning with his second double of the game and stole third before Ostberg singled him home.
- Vulgamore doubled to left center field and Ostberg scored all the way from first base for a 6-0 lead
- Bender followed with a double of his own to score Vulgamore and make it 7-0.
- Quinnipiac sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning and score nine runs to blow the game open
- Marrero homered to left centerfield with his first home run of the inning
- After a walk to Ostberg, Manhattan made a pitching change
- Ostberg then stole second and Vulgamore was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second
- Bender and Cruz drew back-to-back walks with Ostberg scoring on Cruz's walk to make it 9-0
- Huscher reached on a fielder's choice that scored Vulgamore for a 10-0 lead before advancing on a wild pitch
- With first base open, Scafariello walked and Lutz walked to force home Bender before Huscher scored on a wild pitch
- After another walk to Moskey, the Jaspers made another pitching change with the bases loaded
- Marrero came up and drilled a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for his second home run of the inning, this time a grand slam to take a 16-0 lead.
- Ostberg drew a four-pitch walk to open up the inning before Vulgamore blasted his ninth homer to left field and take an 18-1 lead.
NOTES
- Quinnipiac won a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship for the first time after tying Canisius with a record of 17-7
- This is the Bobcats third regular season championship at the Division I level after winning regular season titles in the NEC in 2005 and 2007
- The Bobcats earned the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament for the second straight season
- Quinnipiac's 17 wins in MAAC play are its most since joining the conference, surpassing last season's 16-8 record
- The Bobcats' 18 runs Friday were its most in a game this season and most since scoring 28 at Saint Peter's on March 31 last season
- Prior to first pitch, the Bobcats recognized the seven members from the Class of 2019 with a pre-game senior day ceremony
- Marrero went 4 for 5 to extend his hitting streak to six games and tallied two home runs in a game for the second time this season
- He also doubled twice for a second straight game, drove in five RBIs and scored four runs, with his runs and RBIs totals good for single-game career-highs
- Marrero's 68 hits are tied for sixth in a season in program history while his 47 runs scored are tied for third in Division I program history and fifth all-time and his 44 RBIs are tied for the ninth-most in Division I program history
- Marrero and Vulgamore are now the eighth and ninth different players in Division I history with 40-plus runs scored and RBIs in a single season
- Vulgamore had three extra-base hits of his own, including a two-run home run to finish with four RBIs and four runs scored
- Vulgamore now has 51 RBIs this season to lead the MAAC, a total that ranks second in Division I program history and third all-time
- Ostberg finished the day with a pair of RBI singles and scored four runs as he drew a pair of walks
- He finished the regular season with 65 hits, 31 RBIs and 36 runs scored, all career-highs
- Bender now has hits in four straight games after going 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored
- He also walked to reach base four times as he continues to blow away his freshman season numbers
- Scafariello drew a career-high four walks and scored a run as he now has back-to-back seasons with 30 or more walks
- Enns struck out six batters in a game for the seventh time this season and now has 68 strikeouts in 69.2 innings pitched, tied with Chris Gloor '09 for the sixth-most in a single season in program history
- The Bobcats clinched the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Baseball Tournament next week at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Staten Island
- Quinnipiac's next game will be Thursday at 11 a.m. and the opponent is to be determined as it will play the winner of Wednesday's game between the No. 3 seed and No. 6 seed
