HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac baseball team wraps up the 2019 baseball regular season this week with a three-game series against the Manhattan Jaspers beginning with a doubleheader Thursday beginning at Noon.
Scouting Manhattan
The Jaspers have been hot as of late, winning four straight games and have won nine of their last 11 games. Manhattan swept their series with Saint Peter's last weekend, outscoring the Peacocks 37-15 in the three games. Nick Cimillo has had a dominant freshman year for the Jaspers, leading the team with a slash line of .347/.415/.490 to go with 68 hits, six home runs and 30 RBIs. Sam Franco holds a .313 batting average as well as a team-leading 12 stolen bases while Matt Padre, Shawn Blake and Franco all have four home runs for second on the team. Manhattan's pitching rotation has been solid this season as TJ Stuart is 7-4 with a 3.89 ERA while John Cain is 8-3 with a 4.18 ERA. Stuart and Cain have also combined for 155 strikeouts in 158 innings pitched, led by Cain's 81 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .274 against the Jaspers this season.
All-Time vs. Manhattan
The Bobcats hold a 9-4 record all-time against the Jaspers, including an 8-4 record in 12 meetings since joining the MAAC. Quinnipiac and Manhattan have not met since the 2017 season when the Bobcats took 2 of 3 games in a three-game series in Wappingers Falls, New York. Quinnipiac has won two games in each of the four MAAC series between these two teams.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac won the final game of a three-game series at Fairfield to improve to 14-7 in conference play and put them on the cusp of qualifying for the 2019 MAAC Tournament. The Bobcats downed the Stags, 15-11, after falling in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 3-0. The Bobcats and Stags battled back and forth in game one before Fairfield came back to win, 8-7.
MAAC Playoff Picture
The Bobcats are on the cusp of their fourth MAAC Tournament appearance in the past six seasons, needing a win or a loss by either Monmouth or Siena to clinch a playoff berth. The Bobcats also have a chance at clinching at least a share of their first-ever MAAC regular season championship by winning two games this weekend as well as Canisius winning one or fewer games; or the Bobcats sweeping the Jaspers and Canisius inning two or fewer games. Tournament seeding is wide open with all six seeds up for grabs.
Moskey's Magic
Brian Moskey recorded the 200thhit of his career against Fairfield this past weekend, becoming the 10thplayer in program history to record 200 hits in a career. Moskey finished the weekend with 202 career hits, good for eighth in program history and is four away from tying head coach John Delaney '08 for eighth all-time with 206 hits. Moskey also comes into the weekend tied with Ryan Rizzo '07 for third in program history with 46 career doubles and is 11thin program history with 127 career runs scored. If Moskey plays in all three games this weekend, he will also have played in 200 games in his career.
Scafariello's Strong
Liam Scafariello continued to mash home runs for the Bobcats at an impressive pace as he hit two home runs in the Bobcats' 15-11 victory against the Stags to make him the second player in program history with three seasons of 10-plus home runs and first since Nate Noyes '00. Scafariello now has 42 career home runs in three seasons for the Bobcats. Scafariello also drew a pair of walks this past weekend at Fairfield to break Rob Pescitelli's Division I program record of 79 walk as he has now accumulated 81.

Cruz had three runs scored, three RBIs and three doubles over the weekend and now has career-highs with 24 runs scored, 17 RBIs, 10 doubles and 14 walks this season. Cruz has as many doubles this season, 10, as he did in his first three seasons with the team.

Vulgamore is the first player to accomplish the feat in 20 seasons as both Nate Noyes '00 and joe Zangari '00 did it in back-to-back seasons of 1998 in Division II and 1999 in Division I.
