Philadelphia-Native Helped Lead Imhotep Charter to Three-Straight 4A Titles
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's basketball team has received a commitment from forward Jamil Riggins, as announced by Head Coach Baker Dunleavy and the program on Tuesday, May 14.
"We are very excited with the addition of Jamil and his family to our program," Dunleavy said. "Jamil is a versatile, tough, and skilled player that makes our team better on both sides of the ball. He has been a big part of some very successful teams and understands how to be a part of a winning program. We look forward to getting him with us on campus and helping him continue to develop."
Riggins – a Philadelphia native – will join the Bobcats in 2019-20 after playing his high school basketball at Imhotep Institute Charter High School. The 6-foot-6 big man helped lead Imhotep Charter to three straight Philadelphia Public League titles and 4A state championships during his time with the program, as Riggins and the Panthers went undefeated at home during his career and a combined 57-8 over their last two seasons.
Riggins averaged 15.3 points per game for Imhotep in 2017-18 as a junior, helping lead the Panthers to a 31-2 mark while the team finished the season No. 1 in Pennsylvania and No. 21 in the USA Today national high school rankings. He then recorded 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest in 2018-19 as a senior. Riggins is a two-time Imhotep Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.
He is the third new addition to the Quinnipiac men's basketball roster for the upcoming 2019-20 season. The Bobcats have announced the additions of both Brendan McGuire and Seth Pinkney already – as both will also enter the new season as freshman.
