King Pitches Complete Game Shutout, Bobcats Split Doubleheader with Red Foxes

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac softball team split a doubleheader with Marist on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Lauren King pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Bobcats to a 6-0 victory in the second game. Marist won the first game, 4-2.
Quinnipiac is now 14-27 overall and 5-7 in the MAAC. Marist stands at 24-19 on the season and is now 9-3 in the MAAC.
Game 1
Fifth Inning – Marist led Quinnipiac, 4-0, until the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman Bridget Nasir hit a single down the right line. Sophomore Brighid Douglas then doubled to left field, allowing Nasir to advance to third base. Freshman Lo Yarnall recorded a two-RBI single to left field, and Douglas and Nasir scored.
Marist would hold on to win the first game, 4-2.
Highlights
Fifth Inning - The score remained 0-0 until the fifth inning as Quinnipiac scored five runs. Senior walk-on Jen Fay started the Bobcats' offense off by getting walked. Sophomore Kayla Jensen singled to third base, and Fay advanced to second. Senior Erin Larsen hit an RBI-single, and Fay scored. Freshman Alexis Otero crushed a two-RBI double to center field, and Larsen and Jensen crossed home plate. Senior Rebecca Drake followed with a single down the right line, and Otero scored the Bobcats' fourth run of the inning. On the second out of the inning, Yarnall reached first base on a fielder's choice, Nasir got out at second base, and Drake scored from third.
Sixth Inning – Freshman Hannah Davis and Fay were both walked to start the bottom of the sixth inning. Otero recorded her third RBI of the day, sending Davis home off a single to center field.
King pitched a complete game shutout, allowing five hits, walking two and striking out three. The freshman is now 7-6 on the season.
Highlights
Quinnipiac will host Rider in the final regular season home series on Saturday, April 20 at 12 p.m. The Bobcats will honor the five seniors before the game and celebrate Senior Day.
